Hey all

I'm after a little advice. I've been to see my GI today and come away very confused. I've had what I thought was a crohns flare up for the last 6 months, had an MRI, White Cell Scan, Endoscopy, Failed Colonoscopy, been on Presnisolone, now Budesonide & Pentassa and still only slightly better than last January! Two months ago my GI told me I have a stricture on the right which may need surgery. Today he tells me the stricture isn't that bad, I have a mild? flare on the left and he thinks I have a severe case of IBS on top of the crohns. I think my symptoms are all crohns related and are as follows:-
Constant burning, achy pain mainly located at the ileum (where my stricture is), if I move suddenly, cough, sneeze, laugh I feel like I have been stabbed here. The pain is searing! It is debilitating. I have waves of nausea all the time (haven't been sick though), dizziness to point of feeling like I'm going to fall over, tiredness, fluctuating constipation and diarrhoea, pass alot of mucus (sometimes with dark blood in it).

Could this really be IBS? My GI has prescribed Azathioprine to see if this helps and Buscopan today.

Minus the pain along the ileum, I have very similar symptoms to this, with blood, water, mucous, mix of constipation and diarhea...very frustrating, because it is not typical crohn's. On the one hand I have found some diet adjustments have helped with the IBS like symptoms, I stay away from anything processed essentially. But I still have them...so it will likely have to be medication adjustment. Imuran can work and does work for a lot of people, it requires a good three months of dosing to see best results, keep that in mind. Remicade is a great drug while it works, and could be a great option for you. While I was on it, i had no IBS/Crohns symptoms untill just recently, and now we are looking at increasing my dose or adding another drug??! so...all the best, hope that helps a little.

Thank you Brad :) I've been to see my GP today to get the new prescription & she totally disagrees with the GI. She thinks the pain I'm getting is crohns related & not IBS. Anyway, whatever is causing this pain I just hope the Azathioprine works. It worked for me in the past.
I hope your increased dosage works for you Brad. Wishing you all the best, good luck :) Thanks again for replying :)

I believe current medical thinking is that you can have both. Personally I don't think so, that any problems are due to the IBD, but that's just my opinion.
