Hi all

I had a colonoscopy recently and although I hated the prep day I did notice that for about 1.5 weeks afterwards the number of bowel movements (usually very soft and diarrhoea) reduced from 7 times a day to 1!

I thought it was because I had 5 polyps removed.

It was confirmed that my Crohn's was in remission and I had mild colitis inflammation but soon the number of bowel movements went back to my usual 7 a day peaking at 13 one day!

Most are in the morning and taper off in the afternoon.

I had already seen a dietitian and was on a low fibre diet for 2 months and it made no difference.

My crohn's consultant suggested a laxative and I did look at him like he was mad but agreed to give it a go.

I took the first one last Monday and the bowel movements since have been:

Tues - 2
Weds - 4
Thur - 1
Fri - 2

I have so much more energy now and not going 7 times a day has made a big difference to my life.

When I asked my regular GP about it the other day she looked at me as though I was mad that I was doing this but I did promise the crohn's consultant I would try it for at least a week.

My question is - has anyone else tried this - is it a coincidence or is there something in it that has helped? I am not imagining the reduction in bowel movement clearly from the results.

He has said that if it helps I can continue on the laxative once a day indefinitely with no ill effect.

This has been a major positive thing for me but just looking to see if anyone else has found a laxative has helped like this?

Thanks all
