IBS or Crohns?

Hello! I have been suffering from abdominal pain and diarrhea for about 6 months now. I am going in for a colonoscopy this week. I have been experiencing these symptoms-

abdominal pain (mild to severe)
diarrhea
bloating
gas
occasional constipation.

The pain happens at different times of the day. It doesn't always go away after I use the bathroom. I have also experienced strange white dots in the back of my throat, and my eye got blood shot and red one day. Does this sound more like ibs or Crohn's?

I forgot to mention pain in the rectom area and I have had little weight loss. My grandfather also had Crohn's. I have had a blood test, but that came back negative.

Your doctor has to make a comparison to either the Montreal or Vienna definitions of the disease to make that determination. It is a sub-classification of IBD.

A lot of times they will tell us they suspect Crohn's from initial exams, but the actual clinical diagnosis may come from Laboratory inspection of Biopsies or other methods.

Hiya, i was diagnosed with crohns disease but since i was on steriods they fucked my tests up and said i no longer had it(due to inflmmation going) i have been told i have something called visceral hypersensitivity which is symptoms of ibs but is more to do with nerves and pain etc. From your symptoms it could really be either as everyone has different symptoms and no 2 ppl are the same. Its best to get checked out with a colonscopy and see if they find anything. keep up updated.

Welcome k9595 hope you can find so answer soon with your scope. white dots on the back of throat sounds like strep. but than again maybe someone else knows more about that. Hang in there.

welcome! I´ve been struggling for a diagnose for a long time too, but my tests don´t show clear signs of crohns nor let the docs discard the idea... Right now I´m being treated for both IBS (with otilonium bromite and pantoprazol) and mild crohns (with mesacol - similar to pentasa), still running tests and waiting to see what happens.

From what I know, your symptoms could be from both diseases.

I actually came on here to post a similar question!! I was 'diagnosed' with Crohns about 13 years ago and every time I have had a flare up since I get one doc who says it's not Crohns and one who says it is!! I'm none the wiser.

I had to go to hosp today and the latest doc says she doesn't think it is but I need another colonoscopy to check. I've lived with Crohns/not Crohns for this long - I dont get why they need to label it now.

I'm glad to hear, though, that it's not just me that they cant decide with. It seems quite common.
