Well, you would think after 30 years of living with this stuff I would know the answer to this one!!! But, I don't.....so I did a search on Ibuprophen and I all I could come up with it is bad for the gut.

I was diagnosed with bursitis in both hips some months ago. Big pain, big pain!!!! GP said to take 600mg 3 times/day of ibuprophen and to let her know if it upset my stomach....I didn't notice any stomach pain, but am noticing a HUGE increase in the big D.

Is that want it does to a crohnie????

I don't have a lot of control anyway due to several (as in about 8) surgeries for fistula, resection, etc. which left some scaring (sp). Until now, the only over the counter pain med I have ever taken is tylenol. Due to the lack of control, this latest development has not made me very happy.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated....THANKS!!!!

EEK!!! STAY AWAY FROM IBUPROFEN!! Ibuprofen is evil for Crohn's/ulcerative colitis. Call your GP and see what else they can give you for your bursitis, though you may find yourself on prednisone for it, along with narcotics. Tylenol (acetaminophen/paracetomol) doesn't do much, but we are sort of limited to that as far as over-the-counter pain relievers.

I concur with 2thFairy, ibuprofen is not good for us. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was told that it can strip the intestines of the good bacteria - that's probably why you're having a lot more d, there's not a lot of good bacteria left in you to help digest anything.

I think it is the same as aspirin in that it can cause ulcers. And if that's what it does to a healthy gut, just imagine what it could do to a Crohnie gut!

Thanks Cat, that totally makes sense....by the way, I LOVE your avatar....HUGE cat fan here (we have 6 which includes the barn cat who just hasn't figured out the benefits of living in the house yet! But winter in Wyoming hasn't hit yet and I am betting he will figure it out soon.....)

So I am "assuming" (and we all know what that does) if I stop taking it, it should eventually get back to normal....quit taking it about 5 days ago, so hope to see some relief soon.

Was wondering about some of that yogurt that is out there with the "good bacteria" in it.....any thoughts on this?

Knowing what I do now I don't use it as a everyday painkiller but limit to as few tablets a day as I can for period pains, since I don't notice any ill effects personally.

I remember when I thought I had IBS and took a few regular courses of it (various injuries) I would get terrible stomach pains near the end!
