We have all heard that we shouldn't eat before bed because our digestion slows down. Most people are trying to lose weight after all. But what about those of us with diarrhea and bypassed parts who need to gain weight?

The studies are mixed on whether night time eating leads to more weight gain http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/17/health/17really.html?_r=0 but I'm thinking aside from bloating and going to the bathroom more at night that this may help us better absorb. If transit is slowed down, our foods have more time to absorb. Discuss.

The problem I have with night eating has to do more with reflux. This is a big no no for those with GERD. I don't eat any food past 7:00p.

If you don't have that problem, seems like it would be worth a try. Let us know!

I have acid reflux but it manifests as chest pain mostly and not really acid coming up my throat. I could see that as an issue.

I left hospital about a month ago having lost nearly 17KG during my stay there, during the past month I've clawed back about 11KG.

Pretty simple, I identified what food works for me, and I've eaten it in massive quantities. I just accept that I'm going to have interrupted sleep due to wind/leaks/whatever and just deal with those minor dramas as they arise.

I found it much easier once I stopped trying to diet around what my stoma wants to do. I try to get around 4-800kcal every 2-3 hours. Meat based snacks, full fat milk, ice cream, granola, protein shakes, stout, nuts, rice, pasta etc.
