Hi All...just wondering what people find is the best way to work out...I don't really care for walking or low key work outs...more into the kickboxing type, however since I've been diagnosed and on meds...I find I get tired easy and I seem to aggravate symptoms working out and I can't seem to be able to drink a lot of water as it also aggravates my symptoms!!! Does any one have any ideas or same issues??? Thanks...

The biggest hurdle with exercising me is anemia. Ask your doctor to do some blood work to check. Even if you aren't fully anemic, you could have low blood counts. You could take some iron pills or get a blood transfusion to help. If the above isn't an issue, I'm usually just in bad shape after recovering from a flare. Take it slow if you're just getting back into things or you'll totally wear yourself out.

Can you tell if it's just working out that's causing your symptoms? Personally, I'd only have abdominal tenderness and some joint pain that I felt I could say was from exercise (and only when I wasn't in remission). Let me know what you think.

Hey effedee thanks for the reply..I actually get blood work done monthy (on Imuran) so the Hgb is pretty okay so far....I just find when i feel good and I try to work out (lightly) I can get about 20 mins in...30 is usually pushing it...and I usually can't do it everyday. I find if I work out longer I end up getting "flare" symptoms...it just seems like a vicious cycle...I feel good, try to work out, feel crappy again...all this is still very new to me:)

I used to do yoga regularly and that made me feel pretty good. Now that I've got a dog I try to walk her every evening after work. I do have a friend with crohn's who does kickboxing, so I know it's possible, although it's not really my type of thing.

Oh, and I agree with Effdee - if I'm just getting out of a flare, I am so weak it's ridiculous and exercise is out of the question. I remember once trying to fold laundry right after a flare. I had to take several rest breaks and at one point I felt like I might pass out. I felt like such a wimp, but now I know that I have to be feeling relatively well or exercise just isn't gonna happen. During or right after a flare is a no-exercise time for me.

Thanks for the advice guys...just thought I was going crazy...I am still trying to figure it all out and there's too much!!! It's very overwhelming at times how this disease can affect and change your whole life!!!
