Hi...I am new.
Seems I took things wrong way round starting with Arthrities which got very severe with constant severe swelling & pain over 7-8 years. Rhuematologist Put me on Enbrel after 7 years of suffering...Next 7 years was MAGIC!!..I took Chrons around 2 years ago...not majorly by other peoples standards that I read here.

Gastro decided I best change meds and do Humera which might hit the RA and the Chrons....It hit the Chrons great first time on it for 3-4months but not the RA. Went back to enbrel...tried all kinds of other chrons meds nothing much worked then again half the time i forgot to take the meds....pentasa, imuran etc....so..back to Humera mainly to please gastro...2nd time around not working for the RA in fact not really working much for the chrons either better but not great.Bloat, gas and minor cramping....Meanwhile I get the buck passed from Doc to Doc. Told Doc's moths ago I want the enbrel back he said wait another 6 weeks...I did. Waited 3 months..Went yesterday he said" you still on the enbrel?" IDIOT...I told him I want it back enough trying Humera doesnt work for me...so he tells me we will try Remicade now.....Gastro ordered the humera....RA doc had me on enbrel prior. My complaint since January is wanting off Humera and back to enbrel. My knees are full of fluid he said come back after his Lunch and he would drain!!!!I didnt go back as I had to go home...I called to rearrange the appt...he orders oxyproxin until I get knees drained...(like naproxin which I cannot take. The second time he has given me meds which my gastro said he should not have done!!!!! the first being Naproxin... I called and told the RA office enough is enough I want my enbrel prescription she was to call me back....and didnt!!!!...

So I am stuck on Humera with my arthrities pain and still going to the bathroom every morning about 12 times in 2 hours....
My arthrities doc doesnt want to upset my gastro doc who thinks I should clear my chrons before my RA...feels it is more important even tho I suffer little pain with chrons and much more with infamation of the joints with the Arthrities.....My chrons is not too painful at all never has been 12" I believe of colon involved....just bloat, cramping and trips to the toilet....My RA is severe.

7 months of the buck being passed...I go to my regular PCP tomorrow to ask him to intervene he said he would 6months ago ..meanwhilemy PCP he gives me percocet to aliviate the daily pain...the other 2 give me nothing. He said get another RA doc however, having had enbrel from him for 7years I want my script back before I change docs....I did not need any other meds the 7 years on enbrel however, while on it...I took the chrons 2 years ago and obviously...enbrel does not work for my chrons...I would rather have the RA fixed with enbrel and be pain free and have my chrons teated with something else.....and not remicade. This is crazy....seems I have it backwards....I thought RA comes after or with chrons not 16years later.

The gastro Doc is no better...he leaves the issue of me going back to enbrel between me and the RA doctor...who....passes back to him again or ignores me....so here I am 8months on Humera & painkillers...

Anyone else have severe RA and Chrons? The chrons coming after? and what is prescribed? what do they/you do?:depressed:

Welcome to the forum.

I think you can get either RA or Crohn's in any order. It is my belief that both are caused by bacterial infection.

I really do not know what they treat RA with other than pain killers. The one treatment that treats both Crohn's and RA is Low Dose Naltrexone. That is what I use for Crohn's disease.

Maybe someone else has some other ideas?

iv had problems with my joints for about 6 years now and crohn symptoms started just about a year ago.so am not sure they r related cuz i thought crohn should come first, right ?!
but never seen a Dr 4 my joints cuz there s no severe pain, just stiff shoulders and knees and can hear them crack every time i move them

If the humira failed you can try remicade as that is also able to treat both, though responding to one and not the other seems unlikely. The other choice is methotrexate. As dan suggested, LDN can also work, but isn't proven either. It can't hurt to give it a try because when it works it is great from what everyone says. Other than that, I highly suggest changing both of your doctors as a new doctor who is worth keeping will write you a prescription quickly so that should not be a concern of yours. What should be a concern is that you aren't receiving appropriate treatment currently and that is bad for you long term.

Hi Sctishldy-
Welcome to the forum!
I did very well on Humira, but then it failed me after 4 months. I am now doing FABULOUSLY on Remicade and have been on it for 9 months.
I hope it works for you.
Welcome again, and I hope things start looking up for you.
