hi!
after months of being poorly, I met my surgeon on Monday who agreed I really need an ileostomy. he then dropped a bombshell and said he could fit me in that afternoon as an emergency or two days later... this thursday!
i have opted for the thursday. its all so quick but he said my body is in crisis so need it doing asap. i have known it would be likely for over a month but now its all very real!
just wanted to update everyone, am feeling nervous!!!
xx

Congratulations GEC. A new Stoma!
Hope everything goes well for you.
My Stoma nurse had a guy who was up playing tennis a few weeks after his op.
I was madly jealous of him.
Once you get used to it - it really will transform your life.
Good luck and keep us updated on your progress.

Good luck with the surgery...I hope it brings you a better quality of life, like it did for many on here, myself included :) Welcome to our club! Keep us posted on your progress..

Thank you! Is it weird I'm a bit excited? :/
But at the same time terrified!
X

I have exact same, mixed feelings! It's like having two persons inside your head :D i have mine stoma surgery in july-august. Good luck and tell us how it goes!!! :ghug:

Thanks everyone.
Just a quick, strange question.
Is the catheter fitted when you are already asleep? I'm nervous about this x

My catheter was put in while I was under...I'm pretty sure you'll be the same.

That was really fast turn-around. I had to wait more than a month, which, at the time I thought was a good thing. However, it was a very long time to anticipate something that big. I lost a lot of sleep worrying, fretting, etc...and when awake, I was pretty much a big blob of stress and worry. Not to mention very sick.

Hope you're doing well! Be patient with your recovery and get lots and lots of rest.
