I had my surgery for Ileocolic resection 3 weeks ago which was done lapriscopically. I have really bad bladder problems at the moment. It hurts when I pee, like a burning sensation and is difficult to pass urine. I can't maintain an erection which scares the hell out of me.

I phoned up my doctor to tell him my symptoms. He told he thinks it's a bladder infection and gave me antibiotics to take for 10 days. I still have 4 days left to take but i'm not noticing any difference with them.

My stomach still feels really tight inside, sore and swollen. not sure if this is normal after 3 weeks?

Has anyone experienced these symptoms after surgery? can you recommend what I should take?

Thanks.

Did you have a urine analysis done prior to being prescribed antibiotics? If not you may need to speak with your doctor about giving a urine specimen. If it is a UTI it may not be susceptible to the antibiotic you are taking. They should run a 72 hour urine culture.

I would definitely check in with your surgeon. Things should definitely be getting better at this point, not worse. I agree with the need for labs as well. Try to keep hydrated. Hang in there and keep us posted.

Not exactly the same, but I had the burning when trying to pee and somewhat alarmingly one swollen testicle.

The doctor said my prostate was slightly inflamed and gave me antibiotics for 4 weeks. I'm not sure if it actually did anything or not. The swelling went down, but for months I had occasional burning sensations and the sudden desperate need to go before that got better too.

My theory is it was to do with having a catheter rather than the surgery itself.

Good luck. Hopefully it'll just get better.

Oh yeah, what started it all and has continued for five years now, and I myself am just about to have a fairly major surgery. It hurts like hell everytime I pee, and sometimes it helps to sit and force a bowel movement for me, cuz thats just how my disease is hating my body, so what i can do is explain whats going on with me. I guess my crohns has been inflamed in m I ltiple areas andnone such area is and has been rubbing against the bladder, there is/are multiple fistulas, and narrowings. So they are going to resection where they feel the tissue is no longer healthy enough to pass food, which could be multiple sections, but also I am going to have to have 2 stents placed in my kidneys and they will also need to rebuild and possibly remove a small portion of the bladder. They also mentioned that there is a good chance of having to remove a small portion of the colon as well. So yeah other symptoms are loke pressure when you find yourself freling like you really need to piss alot but its draining ever so slowly almost like something feels as though there is a line being slowly pinched off. I originally thoughtni had an std, then they thought i had an emergency appendectomy, which revealed the crohn's. This started in '11, and has never gotten better. My health and quality of life are extremely poor, as scared as i am i also looking fwd to this surgery, as nothing else seems to be working, and im 112lbs, 5'6" 36yr old white male. So, if I were you, I would def talk to my g.i. dr. if you think it is not getting better. Especially if you are experiencing crohn's related issues or symptoms of flaring.
But who am i, by the way, did I mention i'm pretty ****** up.

My surgeon is away on holiday so only spoke to my nurse, which pointed out it could be an infection or my bowel pressing down on my bladder. Both are possible as my bowel is pretty swollen still.

there is a lot of pain in the groin too which is worrying. The thing is i've never had any problems with my bladder before the surgery at all. I can't understand why it's burning when I pee.

I just got my lab results of my urine it came back fine. This is a mystery. Really praying this improves.

thanks.

Since your urine result is clear and you would have had a catheter inserted when you had surgery maybe it prostatitis??
Prostatitis can cause burning urine, difficulty voiding, groin, back and abdo pain and difficulty maintaining an erection.

thanks for your reply, this sounds like similar symptoms I have. Please tell me this goes away? it's so painful.

It will go away but for it to do so you need to go and see your GP to establish the cause and then treat it. For example, if the doctor thinks it is a bacterial infection then you will be started on antibiotics.

Went to see my GP he said he thinks it's prostatitis. He prescribed ciprofloxacin for 10 days and said it should clear it up. I hope it works the pain is horrible and when I pee it is excruaiting. I still have a lot of pain in my stomach and tightness in my stomach post resection. I wonder if these are causing my bladder symptoms.

Im really sorry man, mybpain is progressing worse and worse, and I just found out that my surgery is not sept 21 loke i thought, that it may be mid to late october, and to be honest, i am afraid to tough it out through the week...? I feel for you as I too endure great ******* pain, usually have to sit down and usually feel pressure as well, almost like something is pinching off the urethra, or something, cuz after I begin to urinate it slows down to a trickle sometimes even having to push to get it ti evacuate, because its oike a double edge sword, if i didnt push there is still tremendous pressure. I get scared and dont want to push too hard, as I am afraid at this point I could further damage something or pop something. As long as I have been dealing with this I can tell at this point that, its getting real bad. I dont want to eat or drink. Sorry, glw your symptoms and recovering hopefully.

Feeling really frustrated still having bladder problems. I don't know what's going on. It's really getting me down. Any advice?

All I can say is keep on ur dr's, it def seems like it has to do with some kind of swelling specially being post surgery? I feel for you, as i said earlier, my pain and difficulty urinating has been for 5+yrs now and am hoping to god that my surgery helps relieve that pain. Maybe an mri is in need? Hate to say it, but a cystoscopy might be in need, which is how i was able to find out my intestines were pushing on the bladder wall. But, you dont want to have to do that, at least awake... hope it clears up soon, GL, keep us posted.

thanks for the reply, the antibiotics the doctor gave me didn't work so going to have to go back. my nurse did mention that my bowel could be pressing on my bladder causing the symptoms. I don't know what to think I just want the pain to go! really regretting this surgery right now.

Its still causing some issues with an erection which is really depressing. if there is any sort of test I should get let me know?

thanks.

Sorry just seeing this now. How are you? What's happening? I was thinking you might need an MRI or other imaging test.

Just so you know I had my surgery, and although i had mri's, they really had a hard time seeing exactly what was going on inside. They had a good idea what was taking place, but it was not til the actual surgery, where they could physically look inside me, and see what was occuring. I had an abscess that was i think at least the size of a lemon or bigger, but it was pressing on my bladder. Your bladder is normally the shape of a ball that would get larger as it fills with urine, loke a balloon. Well the abscess was pressing down on it creating a heart shape out of it, almost making it looking like it was split in two, if that makes sense. I am having a great deal less pain now following surgery. I still have pain now, but it is different, and I am able to evacuate my bladder fully now. Hope things have gone ok for you. Please update us with your situation. Hope all is well.
