Does a patient that had a ileostomy before have the right to go bacteria if he or her wishes? My buddy has been suffering from diereha ever since March when he had his reversal he talked to a surgeon and has a appt Friday. Just wondering will the surgeon tell him no or will it be his decision ?

It is still early days. There are a range of medications that can help with diarrhoea and dietary changes that could help. I am not convinced that a surgeon would agree at this early stage, but I do know of people that have gone back to an ileostomy after reversal.

It's his body and he will ultimately decide but it is early and can take the body months to adjust. I think the Dr would be much more inclined to try every anti diarrhea drug first.

I think he made his choice he's been on multiple medications for diarrhea and nothing has slowed it down his gasttoenterologist said he has rapid transit and he's not getting any nutrients I guess that's what it means. But honestly I think it maybe best he hasn't gained any weight since his reversal and he's starting to look like he did in January.
