the past couple of days have been miserable. I've been passing a lot of blood...mostly blood...almost all blood. I've had pain that comes and goes and last night for the first tie in a long time I was woken up by my bowels. I have been woken up since I started medicine but it only lasted maybe a couple of minutes and I fell back asleep...last night was different. It was a miserable you better get up or crap yourself feeling and the entire time sitting on the pot I was in so much pain I felt like I'd throw up. I have an appointment to see my GP on Weds and I'm starting to feel like that is to far away. I'm tired and weak and just sick of this stupid disease. I've been on medicine for a year now and still no real improvement. Remicaid can't come soon enough...and yet it's so far away :/ Really I'm about to tell my doctor get rid of this stupid colon I've been so gracefully blessed with and be done with it. I don;t want it anymore

Hey Lookame - Been there. Oh, have I been there. I'm probably the wrong person to be giving advice because I am in the camp that believes that surgery is a viable treatment option, not a last resort.

Don't give up on the meds just yet. Remi and Humira have been godsends for many folks here. But just know that life without a colon isn't so bad, if that's the road you end up going down.

Good luck - hang in there. I hope it gets better very soon.

hi lookame,
i have also been there, and while i agree that you shouldn't give up on the meds yet, i will tell you that having my colon removed was the best decision i ever made. i had 7 really great years of remission... even though i'm not in remission anymore, it was still the right decision. and now i get to make all kinds of semi-colon jokes and everyone has to laugh. keep hanging on and i hope everything gets easier for you soon

 I wouldn't presume to say whether you should keep trying the meds or have surgery, but wanted to send hugs. Hang in there!

:ywow: What?? I only needed a TB shot-wth would you need HPV shot before Remicade? I am by no means against vaccines but that seems like overkill, esp if you had all your shots as a kid.

And suggest you go to the health department-is your doctor nuts? In my family there are two RN's and a paramedic and they've all said to me that's the last place an immunosuppressed person should go-plenty of people with whooping cough, TB, MRSA infections and swine flu here in Los Angeles area health departments. My sis-in-law has 2-3 people on her hospital floor a week that get infected from public health facilities.

Hmm maybe got to another doctor if possible.

Please do not give up hope! You can figure this out! I would look at what you are putting into your body, particularly when it has been at its worst. What did you drink and eat? Eliminate anything other than water for at least a week, and that should help reduce some inflammation. I would eliminate dairy, wheat, gluten and corn as well. Sugar is a real must, since that causes much disease. If you have to do so, do a few days of vegetable broth or chicken broth, if you need a break to calm your stomach. Look into natural ways to calm your stomach. You do not need to spend money for ways to improve your health naturally. I am not saying go cold turkey from Western medicine, but begin to incorporate natural ways to improve your health. Good luck!
