hi everyone,

i think i should say first that i have not yet been diagnosed with crohns, IBD, or UC, nor do i know much about them. i am still searching for an answer as to why my body is the way it is so i can make changes and feel better. so, i guess you could say i have joined because i am seeking some answers, info, and advice, since things such as this - and what i may or may not have - are not my area of knowledge.

so..i am a 24 year old female and seem to have a lot of digestion problems, and i've had them since junior high, though in the past few years it seems a lot less severe, though i know it's not normal. sorry, but im going to be graphic here because i'm so desperate for some leads.

i've always had problems with frequent diarrhea, sometimes it was literally unstoppable, having to race to the restroom wasn't unusual. and it was always precede by extreme stomach/gut pains. often there would be undigested food. i have had problems with painful gas and bloating too, it's actually insane to me how severe it is (to me any ways).

in 2007 i got a blood test by a naturopath. turns out i have food 'sensitivities' to: dairy, gluten, casein, whey, garlic, cheeses, almonds, pineapple and asparagus. avoiding these foods does help my digestion but the problems/flare ups still persist, they are just less frequent and less painful. i've also noticed recently that i cannot digest nuts/seeds very well.

i have recently been diagnosed with cat scratch disease that i probably caught years ago. it may or may not be related to this, the doctor i am working with says it is hard to tell. i could treat it with anti biotics but there are other things to be looking at - i am soon taking a GI Effects stool profile test.

i am also often fatigued (my thyroid and iron levels are normal), i have recently been diagnosed with ADD (just started strattera), and i have been dealing with depression since i was 10 years old (on and off with anti depressants, currently on zoloft). i sometimes get eczema on my wrists around this time of year and i am suspicious that i am mildly allergic to latex (i get welts from elastics in certain socks and around my wrists from particular hair elastics sometimes..though it is rare).

if any one has any insight, advice, information, or anything that may shed some light on my situation, it would be greatly appreciated. thank you!

also, when i was very young (before kindergarten) i remember having really bad constipation. i once went for an ultra sound for something unrelated and my fecal matter was so compact in my intestines that it was pushing on my kidneys, my mom told me. i also remember needing enemas. for most of my elementary years i remember having bad constipation and sometimes having blood in my stool but as i got older the problem became the opposite.

Have you had a colonoscopy... as unpleasant as it is, it is the only way to see what is going inside your colon, to see if you have active inflammation/etc. Or other medical investigations?

Blood tests can determine allergies but I'd be cautious of any done by people outside of mainstream medicine.

The only way of determining what is going on is by gathering data, which means colonoscopy with biopsy, gastroscopy - down the throat camera, and MRI/CT with contrast to check for small bowel inflammation or obstruction.

Welcome Michelle,
I agree with Beth. Tests will give you (hopefully) some answers. Also, there is a thread on here about being "Undiagnosed" so you might want to visit that to get some ideas as to what to do.
Feel better!

Hi Michelle and welcome!

Wow, you have a lot going on! Yes, I agree with Beth, too. The more data/tests you have, the more info to formulate a treatment plan with your doc. Do you see a GI?

Cat Scratch disease? Like Ted Nugent sang about? Never heard of it, other than the song. Do you get it from an actual cat???

Good luck getting a diagnosis for your GI stuff. I hope you start to feel better soon!

Hi and welcome Michelle,

like others have said, it's the tests/biopsies that will tell

Good luck with it and let us know how you get along :)
