In the last month , I tried a new thing to increase my weight . I start going to "GYM" which I was going to before I got CD two years ago . Starting Remicade therapy six months ago made things easier for me to exercise .Besides , I am already skinny . I changed some things in my routine

My program :
3 days workout a week
5-7 meals – including snacks & supplements- (rice , chicken , peanut butter , tuna , banana …. )
Supplements ( whey protein , glutamine , Omega 3 , Multi-vitamins )

Results :
one bowel movement for the first time since I got CD ( usually 2-3 )
+ 7-8 ib ( I was 123 & it was steady for three months )
Feeling more better ( 15-20 % improvement )

NOTES :
- Every condition of us is different ( ex. taking Prednisone or having surgery before .. all that are considerable before going to GYM ) .
- I have anal fistula , anal fissure and hemorrhoids so I have nothing to lose!!! ( if anyone knows which exercises I should be careful with in this condition !)
- Be careful with whey protein . Some brands have high lactose intake
- The best period for me after 6 weeks of taking the infusion ( usually the last week before the shot I become a little sick ).
- be careful with any bodybuilding supplements ( consultation from crohn's patient who has previous experience with supps ).
- Many points here require a lot of information such as whey protein or any other supplements ( consultation & Google ! ).

We should interest NOT only with healthy benefits . Having good shape will be beneficial in the long term in life , at work , meetings , job interviews as a good first impression especially if interviewer knows that you have chronic disease ) and many other benefits . Also , We should try taking advantage of the current time as long as we are feeling good before anything bad could happened in the future ( ex. operation , a medication stops working .. ) .

For women or even who have flares . Home exercises with extra meals will be useful . A lot of posts here mentioned that .

I am just a beginner bodybuilder . Some of our friends here are professional . I hope this thread will help some of you :)

Hi,

I like working out too, it makes me feel like I'm getting healthier even when my symptoms are acting up. Its a bit frustrating with prednisone though, I have always been a hard gainer and taking prednisone is making it even more impossible to lower my fat percentage. Sometimes I feel like everything I'm doing is just to maintain the muscle I already have and to keep my bones strong.

But I guess thats reason enough!

Yes fissures are annoying I had that problem when my crohns was at its worst. It didn't really affect weight lifting for me, but I didn't like doing cardio at that time since the increased heart rate would increase the bleeding..

Working out releases endorphins and extra testosterone. It has been shown that high estrogen levels can have a negative impact on the immune system. When testosterone is high, estrogen is low. These are all reasons why you would feel good while implementing a good workout regimen. Don't think that gaining weight is impossible for you either. I used to think that. After a lot of researching on proper techniques, and most of all proper diet (making sure you are eating enough cals) I started to workout when I was 102 lbs in and out of hospital from weight issues. 3 years later after working out right, eating well, and minimal supplementation I was weighing 185lbs and working towards my first competition. A year later, I became a certified personal trainer. I believe working out contibuted to me having many more years of feeling well than I would have had before this last january. I am on my way - starting my workout and proper dieting again right now. To answer your question - no exercises are bad for your fistulas, fisures, and hemoroids. Just make sure you feel comfortable while doing squats.
