Infliximab and oral thrush

I currently have a very persistent dose of oral thrush, probablyly due to just having been diagnosed with steroid induced diabetes and still trying to get on top of the blood sugars. I've had oral meds to swill around my mouth, and two lots of pills, just completed the second course but the thrush is still here.
Does anyone have any experience of having thrush and having infliximab infusions? I have my first booked for 2nd November, will it still go ahead if I still have thrush?

Hi Bunty sorry to hear that hun.. I have had infliximab but afraid im not sure if they will do the infusion with the thrush in play . Could you ring your clinic,hospital or doctors and ask to make sure. Good luck n hope u get your infusion on time. Best wishes x

Do you mean you don't think they'll go ahead? To be honest, I'm burying my head in the sand a bit over this, hoping that the thrush will have magically disappeared by 2nd. Or that if I don't mention it no one will notice....

Hi Bunty , i meant i dont know if they will do or not hun. I would advise tho that you check with them, just in case the thrush may make a difference to the infusion, tho i dont think it would, but not a doctor . Best to ask hun ,heres hoping it will be ok to go ahead x

I think....and it may just be wishful thinking...that the thrush isn't quite as bad today, maybe now the sugars are coming down and I've completed the second course of thrush meds it's all having an effect. Time will tell.

Hmm, I didn't realize steroids / diabetes could cause oral thrush.

I have yeast overgrowth, and it shows up as oral thrush ( at least this is what I have been assuming it is)

I sometimes do oil pulling with coconut oil or used grapefruit seed extract diluted in water to swish around in my mouth and spit out. The oil pulling with coconut oil and a couple drops of grapefruit seed extracts does help at least temporarily.

The oral thrush is what made my GP test for diabetes, it's very common with high blood sugar levels. My blood sugar was off the scale and I ended up spending two nights in hospital on an insulin pump and IV fluids.
I had my second infliximab infusion on Monday this week, and had a blood test prior to it. The thrush didn't show up in the blood test and I didn't mention it to anyone.
Altogether I've had two lots of meds to try and shift it, two courses of a mouth wash, and am now using a gel. It's proving very persistent, it reduces considerably while I'm using the oral stuff but then returns once I've completed the course. This time I'm going to continue with the gel for a week or more after it looks like it's cleared up.
It's important to see a GP about oral thrush as it can spread down your oesophagus and cause major problems, particularly with a compromised immune system.
I'm hoping that now my blood sugars are under control, and I took my last prednisolone tablet this morning after being on them for five months, AND continuing with the gel, that I'll finally get rid of the thrush...fingers and everything else crossed!
