Infliximab stricture?

Hi all,

I haven't posted in a while as everything is supposedly ok. I've posted before about my Flix treatment, it seems to work and although I initially was against it I think I need to stay on it. It's just after 5 weeks without fail I have a flare up for a week then it's alls ok again.

This month has been different, same thing then today i had severe pain develop in my side randomly. Although its calmed down now a bit I can't associate it to anything. I've had a feeling for a while it might be something like stricturing (I've read the thread on what it feels like) because blood tests apparently have show my crp is low.

I know I need to talk to GI but it's a bit difficult, my ibd nurse randomly left in Jan (I'd normally contact her for minor queries) and hasn't been replaced. She actually took a lot of appointments along side GI because i think his surgery is oversubscribed so my appt in March was cancelled and they haven't given me a new one since.

I've got my next Flix next wed but I just wonder if there's any way I can see if I am stricturing, I know it's usually a scope but can they see with a ct or ultrasound? Something less invasive/time consuming. I don't want to find out in a year or so that this pain has caused serious damage if it can be avoided, pain is common I know but I've just had it on/off ever since op so something must be up?

Hey Dave, good to see you bud.

Unfortunately, Infliximab can lead to stricturing as it promotes scarring when it helps reduce inflammation. It's one of the potential catch-22s of infliximab. To answer your question, yes, ultrasound and CT scan can spot strictures. Our wiki entry on strictures lists other tests and information that you might find helpful.
