Has anyone ever had a steroid infusion (i.v.) ? Can you have one, and if so could it be done through a hospital and not a doctor? How do you go about getting one? Thank you.

I had pred via an IV years ago when the docs thought I was having a reaction to them orally. It was horrific on my veins though. They went so sore and red that I often had to have my canula moved to a different vein. You'd have to have it done every day too. Why would you want your steroids given via an IV?

I think if you are admitted to hospital with a flare they generally commence you on IV Hydrocortisone and antibiotics as a means to bring it under control. I would imagine this is the main reason and way of administering IV steroids for IBD.

Matt has had it done this way twice in the last 6 months. The infusions did not cause him any discomfort if it was administered slowly.

I'm also curious as to why you want the steroids administered intravenously.
