Hi everyone,

This is my first post after being a long-time "lurker" on this forum...!

So, about me: I was diagnosed with small bowel Crohn's aged 14 after serious pain and weight loss, among other things. After a few years and a combination of Prednisone, Azathioprine and Pentasa, most of the severe inflammation settled down and I was left with mild disease activity and a stricture, which was largely manageable aside from a few partial obstructions (and resultant constant fear of obstructions).

However now things have decided misbehave again, and I have a internal fistula, bouts of severe debilitating inflammation/pain/et which come and go for no apparent reason, and some other mystery problem which has been causing me stabbing pains lately. So, now, cautiously living on soup and waiting for some MRI results to figure out what is going before trying either Humira or Infliximab (biologicals) and hopefully not having to chop anything out.

But in any case, this is really starting to take over my life, so I have decided to try to take more responsibility for my own health than I have done in the past, re: food-symptom journaling, trying different food/supplementing strategies etc.

I am looking forward to hearing about people's experiences with all of this-- the drugs, but also ways of eating such as GAPS/SCD. Also I am currently doing my PhD so am interested in hearing about how other folk cope with grad school/academia while being ill!

All the best.

Probably starting Humira soon.....

Welcome to the forum. We have a Diet/fitness forum you may want to visit. My Daughter has been on Infliximab for the past 3 years and is working fine for her. I hope the MRI gives you answers. Congratulations on doing your PhD. Does your College have a Center for Accommodations? It will help if you register there. In case you need to be absent, extra time for test, trips to bathroom while in class, etc, etc.

Thanks very much. That's great to hear the Infliximab is working, I am looking forward to trying it- it does sounds like it works well for many people. Yes we must have something like that at my university -- I need to make some enquiries!
