My doc says I have to take iron pills again as my blood test shows I'm low again, the thing is I don't feel lethargic or tired at all? In fact I've been experiencing my best period of feeling well in about 12 years.

1 week in and feeling cramps from those evil little pills, seems counterproductive to me.

What's the best 'over the counter' iron tab in the UK? I'm not going to pay the £7.65 prescription for pills that cost £2, a good pharmacist would tell you that but mine was happy to charge the full prescription fee until I asked what they cost over the counter... git!

I don't know if you have Bifera in UK, but I use it and it is so much easier on my system than the other iron pills I was taking.

I'm told that ferrous glutamate and ferrous gluconate tend to be easiest on the stomach. Good luck!

Hi Matt,

Oral iron is commonly not tolerated by people with Crohn's. You could ask for an iron infusion instead, much more effective at replacing iron, and you might only need it a few times a year, that's if you continue to lose iron.
