Does anyone know anything about iron infusions?

The remicade seems to be working for Garrison, he no longer has blood in his stool, Yea! But he has Pica and is exhausted all the time so we went to a Hematologist on Monday. (Loved her!) Well, it seems his ferritin levels are >21, so they would like to give him an iron infusion or IM injections. The original appointment was for the 28th, but they just called with a cancellation so he will be going in tomorrow morning. :ywow:

I am glad they can get him in, but I don't have time to do the research. Has anyone been through it, what should I expect?

Thanks!

Vicky

Went through a period when I was super low, so my doctor demanded I get 4. It was okay, took like an hour and a half to complete. Most of the other people there were getting Remicade so he should be used to going in for infusions right? I was just super bored so I'd bring a book or something. Also the needle sitting in arm for a while made me kinda nauseous. Bleh :/

Emily,
Thanks for the information. He is used to Remicade so it should be no big deal. I was wondering about the nausea, I will have crackers and sprite on hand. Did the iron help? How long before you had your energy back?

Thanks,
Vicky

Good luck Vicky! I hope it doesn't bother him! I'm glad they can get to him quickly.
