Iron infusions not working

I have been dropping and severely anemic and iron infusions don't do anything. I don't know why or what to do.

Do you have any active inflammation in your duodenum? Are you seeing a hematologist? The last time I was really anemic they gave me a bone marrow biopsy to check everything out. I'm still anemic (hemoglobin @10), but at least it's not 9 or below. That's when I really can't function. And have you spoken with your GI about not improving with the infusions?

Has anyone mentioned anemia of chronic disease to you? Not that that diagnosis helps much as it will only resolve of the underlying condition improves, but still good to know what you're dealing with.

I had it for a while and iron infusions only made a minor difference and for a very short while. I'm now on a double dose of Remicade and while I'm certainly not in remission it has improved the anemia enough to get the HB above minimum and I feel much better for it.

When mine was very bad, I got blood transfusions, about five over a few week period.
