My GI told me to take Iron today. He said 325 mg 2 times a day for 2 months.

So, I go to the store and get some Iron pills. This is what the bottle says:

Iron 27 mg from 134 mg of Ferrous Sulfate

What the heck does this mean????? Now I have no idea what to take.

Does anyone know?

I'm guessing he wants you to take 325mg of ferrous sulfate (that's what I'm prescribed) You can get iron from different types of minerals. Ferrous Sulfate is one. If you aren't comfortable with this still, go to the pharmacy at a Walmart and ask for 325mg of Ferrous Sulfate, they will hand you the pill bottle from the back.

I alternate back and forth (weekly) between ferrous sulfate and ferrous gluconate. The sulfate is rather harsh (makes my stool black and irritates the poo-hole). Alas, it's the potent of the two. So when it gets a bit too much, I switch over to gluconate. The regimen works well for me. It's taken me about three months to get over the anemia, but well worth it. I feel a WHOLE LOT better in that respect (now... on to the rest of my symptoms).

i take an iron thats called "gentle iron". the other kinds ive had made my tummy hurt and this kind i havent had problems with. it says 25 mg, 139% DV. this isnt the same as ferrous sulfate though, im not sure why. the person in Vitamin shoppe said it was called elemental iron. no idea what that means either lol

So, how long could it take before I feel the results of the Iron? I am just so sleepy all the time:(

i remember it taking at least a few months for me to start to feel really noticably better. it seems like it works really slowly. do you get regular blood tests to check your hemoglobin and all that stuff?

if youre really anemic, have you heard about iron infusions? im actually about to have my first one tommorow. supposedly itll bring up the hemoglobin much quicker than trying to absorb in pill form. ive never had this done before, but ive heard of a few people who are really helped by it. something to look into maybe?

I will look into that. Thanks Kello! I do get my blood checked once a month. I just hate waiting to feel better all the time. I totally don't have patience for that.
