Yes i am again one week away from starting my prep for what will be my third colonoscopy. Although i may be a bit of a "drama queen" i definitely would not wish this test on my worst enemy. Having this one next tuesday to determine what route to take with treatment of my Crohns. Currently i am on 40 mg every 15 days of Humira. Which i cant stand the injections, their reactions or the side effects.

Next weeks test will be my first Colonoscopy at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville FL. Even though i am dreading the entire thing i am excited to see how smoothly and well it goes being at such a well respected hospital.

Upon the results of this colonoscopy i will either be starting 6mp, Imuran, or some kind of combination treatment that my dr. discussed. I will post more later in regards to the combination treatment. As for now just trying to relax and not be so anxious for this test. Any advice on how to make a colonoscopy easier (if that is even possible) please be my guest!
Also advice to ease nerves about 6mp etc. i hate hearing all of the possible side effects , especially cancer :\

Thanks everyone for your support and well wishes.
God bless

I have no idea how many scopes I've had after being diagnosed 21 years ago. Yes I am sick of them but its mainly the prep day that sucks. There's no way in hell I'd ever stay awake during a scope. I have no desire to look at the screen and feel pain. No thanks. I get knocked out every single time. I tell the nurse my fears and worries and she talks to me quietly and calmly and tells me what she's putting in my IV and what I'll feel from it. My GI is also in the room hanging out waiting for that tell tale sign of me being completely out of it and even asks me if I'm ready before he starts (I only remember him asking once and my first GI also asked). If you say no, you get more in the IV. :p

As for the 6MP, you've already taken Humira and my understanding is that Humira is more hard core than 6MP (I just went on Humira after taking 6MP for years). I never had any side effects with 6MP and it did help keep me in remission for many years (I took it for over 15 years). Whatever you go with I hope it works for you. :)

as far as the colonoscopy goes I assume you are talking about the prep. Here is a link to different prep options, I hope it helps.

I have had 3 scopes done and I know they are not fun but look at the bright side you will be having one done at a great medical clinic and hopefully they can get you into remission.

have you read over the 6 mp sticky http://www.crohnsforum.com/wiki/6-MP

Also look at she success stories of how even though scary these medications may be they might just be needed for us to live a normalish life. I am currently taking remicade and I know exactly how you feel about the side effects. I finally gave in and I must say it does help tremendously.

I hope you the best and a speedy recovery to remission!!!!

Just curious since we're talking about colonoscopy's, how often should we be getting them done?

Hi Panda33, generally if you're not in remission you have them done once a year or as needed to check if current treatment is working (could be done less than once a year if needed). While in remission you'll generally have one done every 3-5 years as maintenance just to be sure that all is well.
