Hi all new to all this Just trying to get diet under control, drinking coffee seems to be a big no no, stopped drinking it last week after everyone said not to, but it has been hard was drinking so much, finding things hard at moment to eat anything without it upsetting me, anyone have any advice x x:depressed:

I finally gave up coffee, loved it, and it is hard. I started drinking tea and it seems to be a lot easier on me. I use coconut milk in it and agave nectar or honey to sweeten it. I have a whole cuppoard full of different teas I like :)

One thing I'm eating a lot of right now that seems to be gut friendly for me are the no yolk egg noodles with vegan butter. I'll put fish or chicken in it, very plain, but it's not hurting me. Are you in a flare?

My symptoms have lessened a lot since switching to decaff. I'm drinking decaff tea mainly cos even the decaff coffee sets me off if I have more than a couple of cups a day.

Have been bad for a while had test done last month just waiting for results but not getting much help from hospital with diet, finding things so helpfull on this site, I do eat lots of chicken and fish just finding it hard at moment x x

Happy girl, can you tolerate things like ensure or boost? That might be an option until you get some answers. I'm so sorry you're feeling so crummy :(

Hey Happy Girl

Welcome to the forum :) Loads of info on here for you, so have a look around :)
Normal coffee makes me pretty ill but I can get away 1 once in a blue moon when I'm having a relatively symtom free day. I just know I need to be near a toilet if I'm going to have one. I can however drink a decent quality decaff without really noticing much difference in the taste. It does still make me go to the loo but I don't get the pain with it. I drink Taylors or Percol decaff for cafetieres. Try one of these, they may be ok for you?! I drink lots of tea, proper teaf tea in a teapot (not decaff) and I'm ok with this too.

Hope you get your results soon.

My family keep saying about speaking to a dietician
or is it just best working it out yourself, they are always worrying I am not eating enough, its just hard for them to understand, x x

It may be good to see a dietician and get some advice, but I've found that what you can eat depends on the individual.
I know what I can eat only through trial and error.

Thank you all, think I will see how things go give it a few more weeks, just be good to have bit more energy x x

Forgot to ask i have never heard of ensure or boost, is it a supplement, I have had meal replacements before but nothing else really x

Yes, it can be used as meal replacement too, especially the ones that are "plus". When I'm flaring bad sometimes those are the only things I can tolerate, but just be careful they are high in sugar which is bad for us too. I sometimes get the ones targeted toward diabetics called, glycerna, just bc they don't have as much sugar. They can be pricey though :( Take care girl and listen to your body, hope tomorrow finds you feeling better. *hugs*

Have you heard of grain coffee? Its a hot beverage made from roasted barley and chicory. It has a similar roasted flavor to coffee, but it does not have caffeine or the volatile oils in coffee that irritate the digestive tract. One of the brands is called Caf-Lib and you can find it in the coffee/tea section of the grocery store. I drink that instead when I am flaring. I can handle coffee when in remission though.

I've never been able to have caffeinated coffee without having to rush to the bathroom, sometimes even before I finish the cup. This was even before I got sick. But I drink decaffeinated coffee and I don't have any problems with it. I also use non-dairy creamer and sugar.

I did talk to a dietitian and she agreed to decrease my coffee intake. I am down to 1 cup a day, but sometimes I can tolerate a few cups (for when I am really desperate for energy).

But I am careful when I am flaring bad like I am now. The stronger the coffee, the quicker I have to empty. I've had flavoured coffee a few times and that's even worse.
The dietitian also helped me figure out a diet that was safe with what I can and can't tolerate and follows the general Crohn's diet that I found in a book (which is similar to what everyone on here follow).

Hope things get better for you hun, I know it's hard!

I cant drink coffee or brown tea. Now drink green/white tea, peppermint (which really helps settle down my stomach) and caromile. Some taste nice with honey as well if you like it sweet

i too have switched to decafe coffee, dont drink an awfull lot but it has helped.i also started drinking redbush tea as its decafe and has anti-oxidants.not had any coke-pepsi for 2months which has helped.

Hi all thank you for all your advise doing a lot better today first day in a long time, just drinking green tea and normal tea, head aches been bad, just need to get diet sorted now.

Thanks again.
Happy girl

:thumleft: Really glad to hear you're feeling a bit better. Headaches can be a symptom of coffeee withdrawal so hopefully they will ease off a bit too. With you on the diet: I'm gonna talk to my doc about an elimination diet when I go to see about the results of the barium meal.
I've identified that it's mainly cheese and sugar that give me D but I need to identify what causes my stomach pain to flare which happens a lot.

I have had so many barium meals over the years its the worst stuff to drink, I am waiting for results of a colonscopy think that is how it is spelt which did not go well as I had to stay in a few days they thought I had internal bleeding but lucky it wasn't, since I had that done things have been bad think they have upset things when they where poking about, hopefully all will be ok x x

I think in general, having a less caffeine is good for your digestive system. I know friends who have healthy digestion, however feel much better after cutting out coffee and high-caffeinated teas.

It's just so good though!

There are many benefits we can get from drinking coffee. Based on what I've read, drinking coffee can protect your heart; according to some research, moderate coffee drinkers have lower rates of stroke than non-coffee drinkers, an effect linked to coffee’s antioxidants.

I haven't been able to give up coffee, not sure if it makes my symptoms worse or not. I was a bit of a coca-cola addict a few years back, gave that up for quite a while but now unfortunately am back to drinking it daily - I know it is so bad for me and I am slowly weaning myself. I would hate to be around me if I had to give up coffee as well! :ymad:
I have never tried an elimination diet, but I do steer clear of things I know I can't digest.

I'm taking baby steps to give up coffee as I think it aggravates my CD. Way back before I had CD I'd get constipated if I stopped drinking it, so I suspect it aggravates my diarrhea.

Each week I'm replacing a tiny bit of regular with decaf. This way my non-caffeinated energy level can adjust and I don't get that awful withdrawal headache. I should be off it in about six weeks.

Hi all still off coffee feeling so much more myself, when I was having bad day which they are still happening I would have several cups of coffee to pick me up again not good so glad I stopped, really liking all the green tea flavours, been putting little honey in, trying to cut down sugar now,
