Is it safe to use Mobic?

Diagnosed with CD and Ankylosing Spondylitis! AS pain is out of control right now. I can't sit for five friggin minutes without stiffness and pain setting in. Started sleeping on an ice pack a few nights ago and it works well. Problem is I have to move it several times a night.... Rhuematologist prescribed Mobic but I'm still tapering off of prednisone (10mg) so I'm very Leary of any NSAID's. Not to mention how it may effect the Crohn's. Any help is appreciated....

Maya142 kids didn't have an issue with it I believe
Are you on biologics?
Swimming helps the hints tremendously which lowers the pain even if your just in the water

Yes, definitely check with your GI. My daughter's AS is much worse than her IBD and she really needs an NSAID, so her GI is ok with her being on one.

It took a lot of trial and error to find ones that she could tolerate: Mobic and Relafen are the only ones that didn't bother her stomach. She is currently on Mobic and can't do without it.

With my son, his rheumatologist wanted to px NSAID but when the GI and rheumatologist discussed the GI nixed it since my son's wasn't in deep stable remission CD wise.

The Rhuematologist gave me the script because the pain from the AS was much worse than the Crohn's symptoms. She said it was "safe" and then sent me next door to see the Gastro. Gastro was of course against it or any NSAID for that matter and wants me to wait until the Humira kicks in so she knows if it's working or not. Well Humira is still pending approval a month later by the insurance and I'm tapering off of prednisone all at once! So... what is one to do??? Take the Mobic and get some relief but possibly anger the Crohn's at the same time??? Take the Mobic despite the warnings about mixing NSAID's and Prednisone??? I've got to do something between now and the end of the appeals process which can take forever!

I read the same thing regarding the gastrointestinal bleeding and I already have blood in the stomach and bleeding at the terminal ileum. It's just so damn frustrating when night time rolls around and I know what I have to look forward to. Then knowing that I have something in the medicine cabinet that will make the pain go away but I'm not suppose to take it is VERY frustrating!

It certainly could cause bleeding. Can you have your two doctors talk to each other and come up with something?

Voltaren gel might help since it's an NSAID but not much is absorbed systemically. My daughters use it on their knees, elbows, heels and spines.

Another option would be to ask for pain medication (Tramadol, Oxycodone etc.) as an alternative.

I was diagnosed with AS and (supposedly) Crohn's, but being a narky scientist I'm waiting for more evidence. AS definitely though.

Mobic and Prednisone (actually, most drugs since diagnosis) cause a fair amount of stomach acid, which I may feel by reflux. However, more importantly, I realised that increased stomach acid would irritate ulcerations in my terminal ileum. So, taking Mobic for the AS, I always popped a Zantac an hour before. I found that the twinges of pain in my guts disappeared immediately. Despite the pred helping me heal, I think the acid was irritating my terminal ileum and slowing down healing. Also, my bum doesn't burn

But as others say, ask your GI is your best move forward.

I'd listen to your GI and not take it.
As others proposed, you could try Voltaren gel and some swimming.
maybe your GI could accept Celebrex. Mine only accepts Celebrex for me. Crossing fingers you get soon approuval for Humira. good luck.
