Hi All,

I know its unpleasant and some what uncomfortable to talk about, but I'm sure worse of things have been said on this board... I have the most irritating backside (anus) itch I have spoken to my Gastro about it plenty of times and he says its all apart of having crohns and that its very common amongst people with crohns/uc. Well if its common I need to no what other people are doing to treat it because it is literally driving me nuts, it is seriously worse then having diaheer with blood, weight lost etc any of those symptoms are far more livable then having this irritation/ severe itchy back side.

it almost always occurs after bowel movement or wind movement. it seems to be worse at the moment due to my infliximab (remicade) infusion needing a re-dose, it is worse at night and in the heat.

I have been using calmoseptine cream for along time now but it only seems to be a temporary cover up and i cant really take the cream and apply it when I'm out, but even at home i find it only releaves the itchiness by about 30-40%, I need a good long term fix any idea's anyone?? I am at the point now where i will give anything a try.

It is also worthy to note that I get a some discharge at the time of the itch (which is the likely cause of the itch, but even after i clean up the discharge or have shower its still itchs)

Thanks..

oh and by the way its not thrush people, i had my self checked out for that and when I got back from europe (males can get it too!)

Hi. I lso have this rectal itch sometimes. I usually use a cream for it prescribed by doctor (it's name is Proctosydel)

Another advice you can try is having warm sitz baths. Hope this helps

I had this too, at the start of my symptoms. With either bleeding or discharge of mucous (sp?). I was given suppositories, think they were proctosydal (sp?). but as my condition became worse, this went away (thankfully). Oddly enuff, it was always at its' worse at nite, or when the bleeding was starting. i could tell from the itch if my bleeding was going to be worse/better than my previous episode. Everyone told me that same thing: it was typical, just live with it, and to take the suppositories or try a bath or a sitz bath. wish I could be more help

Parasites, such as pin worms cause this itch also. I am not sure what the origin of my itch was but after I used Chlorine Dioxide it removed some parasites. It also killed bacteria, so all I know is when I was done the itch was gone also.

There is likely several conditions that can cause this type itch.

Glad to be rid of it.
