Hello all.
I'm desperate for some advise Please.
I've recently been diagnosed with crohns after 16/17 months.
Initially my GP said he thought it was crohns so i was
Referred to a specialist who did all the tests going apart from an
MRI. He said it was colitis and put me on asacol. It didn't do a lot to be
Honest and after many visits I gave up, I think it was the point he said
To me "this is how your life is going to be now deal with it"
So I paid to go private had an MRI and was correctly diagnosed after
3 weeks of seeing the new specialist. I went to cambodia and Vietnam
For most of May so was put on steroids to get me through my trip
And on my return saw my private doc again to start a treatment plan.
He has told me to stay on the asacol but a stronger dose.
Anyway the point of this story is I still feel crap and need advice on what I can
And can't eat, every website seems to contradict the next, don't eat this
Do eat this, aaaaaarrrrrrrrgggggghhhhh!!!!!!!!
What do I do?
All advise will be greatly appreciated my tummy is so swollen it's
Horrible!!!!

Thanks in advance, sorry it's long winded

Curt

Hang in there, you can do it but it takes time.

Most of what you read on the web about what you can eat is crap. Anyway, everybody is different. Start keeping a log of what you eat and when, and what symptoms you have later, diarrhea, pain, etc so you can track back and see what foods are good / NOT good for YOU.

I use an app on my phone called GI Monitor (from Wellapps) its free and works great.

Hope this helps

Hi there and welcome!

1. Asacol may very well not be the correct medication to you. Get an appointment and discuss additional medications.

2. Two of the more popular diets that people have some success with for Crohn's Disease are the paleo diet and specific carbohydrate diet. However, to calm things down, I personally would discuss utilizing enteral nutrition with your doctor. It's a liquid diet that can help you get to remission.

I'm sorry you're having so much trouble. We're here for you!

Everyone is different, and that applies to both medication and food. That's why the websites seem to have contradicting information...and you can't really trust a lot of what the web says anyways! And same with the Asacol-be sure to tell your doc! Especially if you feel like you're getting worse.

Thank you guys, I'm going to see if I can get an appointment with a nutritionist
And also to go back and see my doctor. It's not that I feel I'm getting worse I just
Feel bloated all the time, as soon as I eat it's out of me it just makes me feel so
Lousy!!!
Thank you for your help

I agree with a food journal. It will be the most effective way for you to figure out what works for you, as everyone is different with what they can, and can't eat.

I don't know if you get GM crops in the UK, but if you do, you should avoid them at as much as possible. IMO, GM crops are poison.
