Here it is almost a law to be devoted to the chile plant. Green chile, red chile, enchiladas, carne adovada, green chile stew, stuffed sopapillas, they are yum. So yum and spicy that I cannot tolerate them. And now it's chile roasting season. A magical time when the city is filled with the god-like aroma of roasting chile. It's a tradition to buy a big bag, peel the chiles and then freeze them so you have some all year round.

The smell is driving me crazy. I'm still undiagnosed and I've only been having symptoms 3 months, but the changes my life has undergone are drastic. On top of untreated symptoms, no income, and having to take off the semester from school, it's too much. I need me some green chile.
How do you deal with the things you cannot do anymore?

Well, if I'm feeling good, I go for it. If I feel like crap, it doesn't appeal anyway so I don't bother. Wish I could give you something better. I go through what you are going through at Christmas. All those lovely baked goods with lots and lots of butter. Yum! Makes my intestines twist just thinking about it! Good luck and back away from the chiles!

I'm from Texas, so I totally understand where you are coming from! I used to be able to eat spicy food, and now I end up throwing up all night. So, no more salsa for me! I have always found the best thing to do is to talk about it. I'm lucky (prob not the right word) and both my brothers have crohn's, so we always share stories and can bitch to each other. I think it makes it easier to know there are other people out there who can't eat whatever they want all day long. Probably more than you realize. And swapping stories reminds me what happens when I do eat things like green chiles... So, if you don't have anyone to talk to at home keep posting on this blog. I new to it, but it seems like a good resource for people who are just diagnosed or need to vent

You dont deny yourself. You just go very mild, with NO SEEDS. And light on the spices.

And might I add as an ex pat in England.... I WOULD FRIGGIN KILL FOR SOME FRESH CHILLIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I gave in to the chile lust and made some green chile chicken soup. Yum, even if it does cause pain tomorrow. Fresh hatch chiles, they have to be hatch, are the best.
