joint pain(knee and ankle)

i have sever pain on my ankle and my knee joint whenever i put pressure on it. i hurt enough that i can't walk normally. i haven't been diagnosed with chron's by the doctor yet but i we are suspecting it and was suppose to check it out this week. if I do have chron's, could the joint pain possibility from chron's? and will it go away?

Hi kaykang and :welcome:

Yes joint pain can be a symptom of Crohn's. In Roo's case she suffered with knee pain and it did disappear once the Crohn's was brought under control and she went into remission.

Perhaps you would like to post your story in the My Story Forum so more people will see your thread and get to know and welcome you.

I'm glad you found us and I hope you stay around and share your experiences with us. Keep us posted on how you go. Did the doctor check it out?

Take care,
Dusty

Yes Yes Yes! I had joint pain in pretty much every joint when I was in a flare a couple of months ago. And it was not just the joints but the muscles in the joint area, sort of the connective tissue. One day I drove 20 minutes and could barely get out of the car my knees hurt so bad. Once I got the DX of Chrons they put me on 20 mg of Prednisone and within two days I had no joint pain at all. I tapered off the prednisone after 5 weeks and I am now on Lialda. The joint pain is gone, I get some occasional joint pain here and there but at 45 years old I can't tell if it's crohns or not. lol! Good luck!

The joint pain could be caused from the inflammation of crohn's or it could be that the muscles that suspend the joint are too week. If you can swim or walk a little bit to start strengthening those muscles it should help :) I also heard Vitamin C is great for joint pain.

Hi Kaykang
and welcome

Yes, me too! It's a Crohnie thang!
It will come and go over time, your doc will advise which meds will suffice, maybe a short course of Pred for starters?
good luck with the doc and let us know how you get on
lotsa luv

Welcome kaykang! Hope to see more of your story in the "Your Story" thread!

Unfortunately, yes, soreness in joints, (and a lot of other places) is one of those, what is called, and extra-intestinal manifestation (or EIM) of IBD.

Because the root cause of IBD is our immune system (to put it very basically...there is a glitch in the program...lol)...many other things can show up in our bodies...sore/swollen joints/muscles, skin problems, eye problems, hair issues.... there are many different issues listed and talked about around the site...hopefully you have time to check some of them out....

Welcome!! :)

Me too not just knee and ankle but all my joints give me pain to the point i'm thinking of changing careers.

Im also having severe throat problem which is giving me problems eating. The dr. Told me that i had ulcers on back of my throat... whew. Scheduled to do colonoscopy next wed. I guess i have no option but to endure and wait =/

You may know this but in case you don't. Crohns can affect your GI tract from your mouth to your anus. So what you have going on in your throat could also be chrons. Good luck!

I was diagnosed with Crohns in 1968 when I was 23 and until a year or two ago, I had no joint pains. But now at 65, the elbows and knuckles are sources of pain. Remicade stops the activity in the ileum, but the trade off seems to be in the joints. Better than another resection....

Welcome kaykang, glad you are here, great info and lots of insights on here.

Hope your scope goes well, keep us updated. I would of thought he would do an endoscopy at the same time? Good luck.
