Does anyone suffer joint pain with their IBD. I had this on and off for years and didn't realise it was IBD until diagnosed in Aug. Its not so much pain but stiffness which makes me so tired. Also wonder if the mesren tablets I am on are making it worse.

I've had hip pain and lower back pain ever since I can remember with Crohn's. Could be arthritis caused by the crohn's, I think that is what my doc said a while ago.

HI Lara, Usually with IBD. it causes joint pain and arthritis to form, due to the nature of the disease. It all has to due with the immune system. Especially when inflammation is present. usually when inflammed you tend to get pain in you lower part of your body ankles, knee's, hips and lower back pain. This is not unusal, You can ask your doctor about some pain medication, but no NSAID's it will only make your inflammation worse NSAID's can weaken the intestinal walls. NSAID's are asprin, advil, or ASA and others.Your better off taking tyenol, acetaminophen. best wishes.

Scott pretty much said it all for me too. Suffering now, even though they say it is a myth of us suffering because of dampness from the rain...hah.

hi there, i'm suffering joints too, made a lot worse by the menopause. am about to give hrt a go. i know the agonies and tiredness, lara. many on here are suffering with you.
best wishes

Thanks guys. Im so tired today with it, but hoping to get back to work soon. Yes my age dosen't help, 43, so think my bodies changing, so thats contributed to the pain, also suffering with post viral fatigue. Will try taking a stronger cod liver oil tablet and guess its just paracetamols or co codamols.

hi again lara, i'm afraid age does get to the bones, if bones were an issue before then the menopause is a very difficult time. i tried cod liver oil which causes me great pain because i just can't tolerate that oil. omega 3 on the other hand i can seem to stomach, but has done nothing for this 'change'. i know the tiredness too, goes hand in hand with active crohns and to be honest i find the codeine range doesn't touch the pain of crohns and bones, but good luck. you are definitely not alone suffering all this. we, at least, understand what you are experiencing.

A forum of arthritis called ankylosing spondylitis goes with IBD as well as something called Reactive Arthritis (reactive to a stomach issues).
women have a harder time with DX.

since NSAID have issues with crohns. Sulfazine helps. watch fish oils because if they are fish they do sometimes have very high mercury.
