I don't know if this has to do with my Crohns or not.. But I am having VERY bad joint pain. Especially in my ankles. Has anyone else had bad joint pain? Or is it just me? And if so, any tips or medicine? I don't know if I should make a big deal out of it or what. HELP :confused2:

this is a cut and paste i posted earlier.
my rheumatologist says that joint pain is a symptom of whats going on with your ibd/crohn's. it mirrors what is going on in your guts.. so when your joints & such hurt usually your insides have some problems also... ive been having problems with this myself. my rheum says that i may need to go on some biologic with my aza in order to control this, even tho my recent colonoscopy came back clean. he said there may be microscopic inflammation that is not being treated with the aza.

Yes it most def could be related...I have crohn's related arthritis and medical marijuana helps a lot. I have had Humira and eternacept offered to me but for now I'm sticking with the marijuana as it seems to only have positive side effects. I plan to try using hemp oil (Rick Simpson Oil-look up phoenixtears.ca), probiotics, and SCD diet to cure my crohn's and arthritis this coming year. I know that smoking cannabis allows me to do things pain free that I normally couldn't and it (along with LDN and probiotics) is keeping my crohn's in check at the moment so I believe concentrated doses of THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids could really do away with my current "diseased" state...

I get bad joint pains as well. Mostly in the balls of my feet and my hands. I have found that low dose prednisone (10mg) helps quite a bit. My GI says it is from inflammation in the blood and is a sign of your crohns flaring. Oddly I find that entocort seems to help some as well, just not as much as the pred. Not sure why it would work at all actually since it is supposed to be non systemic.

I get a lot of bother with my ankles, knee's and right shoulder but my doctor doesn't seem that bothered about it but its really sore and getting to the point where its affecting my sleep.

Joint pain is part of my disease, Crohns, lower back, thumb joints, feet, etc. DO NOT take ibuprofen (it landed me in the hospital!). My joint pains will often travel to different joints....not fun but all part of it. Try going in a hot tub, hot bath, walking helps. Good luck and thank God for this forum.

Yes joint pain can be crohn's related.

Beyond the intestine
In addition to having symptoms in the GI tract, some people also may experience a variety of symptoms in other parts of the body associated with Crohn’s disease. Signs and symptoms of the disease may be evident in:
eyes (redness, pain, and itchiness)
mouth (sores)
joints (swelling and pain)
skin (tender bumps, painful ulcerations, and other sores/rashes)
bones (osteoporosis)
kidney (stones)
liver (primary sclerosing cholangitis, hepatitis, and cirrhosis)—a rare development
All of these are known as extraintestinal manifestations of Crohn’s disease because they occur outside of the digestive system. In some people, these actually may be the first signs of Crohn’s disease, appearing even years before the bowel symptoms. In others, they may coincide with a flare-up of intestinal symptoms.

This is interesting, because I've only started experiencing pretty severe joint pain since I finally tapered off Prednisone. I speculate that the pred was keeping the joint inflammation down, and now that it's out of or leaving my system, the joins are inflamed.

I've got pain in the balls of my feet, my knees, my hips, fingers, and right shoulder. Once I get the joint moving and loosened up I'm basically OK until I stop moving - sitting down, for example - after a period of inactivity standing up and walking again is incredibly painful.
