Hi guys,

My specialist yesterday decided to put me on aza 200mg daily following a bowel resection 10 weeks ago, I'm very reluctant to take this drug as I know my ex partners mum took it in treatment for cancer and don't like being in the same bracket. How are other peoples experiences with this drug? Should I ask to try another drug first? I suffer badly with anxiety related to taking medicine which doesn't help :(

Starting on 200mg sounds very high. I started on 50mg and increased and had a nasty reaction when I got to 150mg. I am now on 6mp and so far no problems.

Yeah I thought 200mg was quite high considering they come in 50mg tablets. I'm tempted to ask for a second opinion on my treatment tbh :/

I take 2 50mg tablets everyday. So for I haven't really had any problems with it. But I take Lialda in addition to the Imuran. So I don't know if I don't have any issues because of the combined medications.

I take 200 mg a day (2 100 mg doses), and have been on that dosage for about 15 months with no issues. I started Imuran about 20 years ago (75 mg a day then).

My son (he's 10) has been taking aza for about two years now, and he's done really well on it... he's on 75mg a day, but it's based on weight, so it makes sense that you should be on more. He doesn't have any day to day side effects, just regular bloodwork to make sure his liver is processing the drug well. He didn't get much relief from his other drugs, so we've been happy so far with the aza.
