Hi all!

I'm Cindy, 41, from SC. I have been battling symptoms for almost a year and was finally diagnosed yesterday (following a colonoscopy and biopsy).

I'm doing a lot of research, but I know that knowledge from others is often the best information. My doctor has started me on Apriso, any experience with that would be appreciated.

I look forward to chatting with you all. Thanks!

Cindy

Hello Cindy and welcome to the forum :)

I am sorry to hear about the diagnosis hun, just know you have come to the right place for lots of helpful info and support. I have not been on Apriso myself so could not advise however we do have a sub forum for the 5-ASA's that is worth having a look at so you can have a chat with the folks here as well: http://www.crohnsforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=125. When will you next be seeing your doc to discuss how things are going?

I will be keeping fingers crossed that you can be feeling better soon.

Hi, Cindy! Welcome to the forum!

I'm sorry to hear you've just been diagnosed, but at least now you can get to feeling better! The link Angrybird posted should help you gather infomartion on Apriso. If you have any questions you don't see an answer to, feel free to post them!

Wishing you the best!

Hi Cindy and welcome to the community.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of Apriso for Crohn's disease. The active ingredient in Apriso is mesalamine and Apriso releases it at a pH of 6 or greater in your intestines. The thing is, it's approved for use in Ulcerative Colitis, not Crohn's disease because it is thought to act topically whereas Crohn's disease is transmural (affects the entire width of the intestines). Now, it MAY work for you and it's one of the most conservative treatments for Crohn's disease. But the thing about Crohn's is, it's absolutely imperative that the inflammation be knocked down and mucosal healing be started. If you're only on Apriso, I'd be worried that isn't happening. As such, you need to be monitored VERY closely to make sure it is. The last thing we want is smoldering inflammation leading to scarring in your intestines as that's when the complications really start.

I know this is a lot to throw at you but frankly, there's a LOT you need to learn about Crohn's. It's overwhelming, I know. But the more you learn, the more you can advocate for yourself. And we're here to help you in every aspect we can with that.

All my best to you.
