Hello, I was just diagnosed with lymphocytic colitis. 40 years old, no history of GI issues. Have been gluten and dairy free for 2+ years due to inflammation of muscles and ear/sinus problems. This past month has been terrible - chronic D, gas, and thankfully, only a few days of intense abdomen pain and bleeding, which took me to the hospital.

My GI dr. said there are 3 links to this - 1) avoid Ibuprofin, Advil, Aleve; 2) stop taking Zoloft - will work with my doctor, 3) Celiac. I will be tested to see if I have the gene for Celiac. I did consume gluten over the Christmas holidays, so wondering if there is a link here?

I understand diet is important. Just curious what seems to work best? Should I start with a bland diet of rice and chicken, and then slowly introduce veggies? Before all this started, I wanted to eat a majority of plant based foods, but now I am afraid a majority of this might be bad (beans and nuts might trigger?) Also, thinking I should try eliminating my morning coffee?

I just found this forum and am very relieved! Thanks so much!

That's the main food to avoid to begin with for those with LC/MC. Many avoid wheat/gluten. it isn't a cure for most it seems but can help some. Avoiding NSAiDS is believed to be good. Writing a food journal may help pinpoint trigger problematic foods.

For my MC I am avoiding beef and dairy products currently. I believe this diet idea is helpful for me. Time will tell though. I have a few more months to go with this diet idea.

I haven't tried this medication myself yet, but there is a good chance I'll try low dose naltrexone (LDN) in the future. Many with MC/LC mention symptoms improve, and sometimes go away after taking the generic drug. If LDN might be something of interest to try, talk with your doctor. More on it can be read in the treatment section, which can be seen here ~

Don't be frightened of a plant based diet. What worked for me was strict no gluten, and no processed foods/additives. Its no surprise people finding that no gluten makes no difference when they buy gluten free bread and pasta made which has to be made with some glue or other. Monosodium Glutamate is a trigger. Food colourings. Basically try an elimination diet for three months (see tom Malterre's book) but stay well away from industrialised food processes. The antibiotics in chicken are a trigger. If you want animal protein stay with wild fish only. Lots of soups, lots of vegetable variety. juicing and blending should do it. You also need to think carefully about how to support microbiome.
