so here I am about a month and a half since being discharged from the hospital from surgery...

Sure, I feel fine with the bag and being on the prednizone yet everytime I look back at my surgery, I can't help but feel sad for scaring my family and friends like that. It was a rough surgery I was told,

Then there is still the issue of the status of my colon, my last colonoscopy was in 1994. They were unable to do one in April due to the stricture.

I have pretty much accepted the fact that my colon will need to be removed eventually, and for me, the sooner the better because I am at risk for colon cancer.

I wont know untill August tho because my GI DR wants to wait untill I am down far enough off the Prednizone.

It would be a major surgery and I want to make sure they don't over medicate me like last time... that is what caused my complications in the OR.

I take Kolonopin for anxiety, 1 or two times a day as needed but they were giving it to me three times a day, plus the pain pills, the protonix, the zofran, flagyl, cipro, prednizone, a blood thinner to prevent clotting, and a few others, oh and lets not forget the ritalin,

I know it is months away but just thinking about it makes me nervous...

Im glad to know I have you all here to talk to and I know you all will be with me in spirit anyway...

Skippy, is your whole colon involved in the disease? They told me I'd have my resection within 10 years, but I got to 16 years without it. And after that, I was good for 7 years, didn't come back till this last fall. And...you know we are all here for each other, you always have us.

well, the CT scan showed that the colon was communicating with the intestines and that food was going to parts of the body it shouldnt have..

I already told my surgeon and GI dr to not even think about reconnecting the colon, I am keeping this bag.. it is convienient, easy to maintain, and not to mention being it has been since 94 since i had my last colonoscopy, i will be surprised if the colon doesn't have to come out.

Thank you Clynn!

Ah, I understand then. That's a long time to go without a colonscopy, hmm? I am not one to talk, though, I avoided them like the plague during my 7 year remission. I know we should have one yearly, but I hate them so. The prep alone nearly does me in, the older I get, lol!

I dont think I need to prep for this one,
they are going down through the stoma and then up through the rectum,
I guess I will find out in August.

Hey Skippy, it's a lot of meds eh? I understand the worry about being over medicated on a bad day I get up to 32 pills a day. At least they will monitor you closely. What are you like coming out of anethestic? Do you recover well?

Maybe you could talk with the anethestist first about all the meds?

We are here for you, no worries there mate.

for the colonoscopy i was fine coming out of the anesthetic, but they had a problem waking me up in recovery from the surgery...

I had mucus in the stomach and fluid in the lung.

With my nissen fundoplication surgery I was complicated too - I couldn't breathe and my O stats were real low even on oxygen therapy - that's why I can understand that you would be a little concerned about surgery. I am for my next one when it happens, and with crohns we know it happens.

yeah but I will be ready this time,

I am going to tell them absolutely no kolonopin the day before surgery, I won't have to worry about the ritalin because my psych Dr will give orders as far as my psych meds go,

the only other med I am taking currently is the prednizone.. I liked the zofran tho, the hospital here gives everyone a blood thinner to prevent clotting, it is standard protocol,

I will have a primary physician by then and if those In house general practicioners come in my room I will just instruct them to see my chart which will clearly state which DR's can treat me and their names won't be on the list.. It is my right to refuse treatment by them...

these are all preparations in case my colon has to come out this fall which I am almost sure it will considereing my last colonoscopy was in 1994.

I don't even know the name of the surgery I had, all I know is they disconected my colon and gave me the stoma with colostomy bag...

I think it was an Illiostomy/colostomy? I need to ask more questions lol
when I go see my surgeon for follow up in July im gonna ask.

Skippy it doesn't sound like you have anything to worry about hun.
You be insistent on who can treat you. Sounds like you have got a plan that is sound and stick to it! Plus if you start ordering the docs around the nurses will live you for it because they are not allowed to!

Glad you are getting on ok with your bag. Its a bit daunting at first but you do soon get used to it. I had my colon removed in February this year and was glad to see the back of it. Mind you have nothing but problems since but none to do with my bag or the original op!
I had my colon removed due to UC but they now think i have Crohns.
Will wait and see though.
You seem like an upbeat and quite positive kind of guy for all you have been through. Keep that going and of course you know we are always here for you and each other. That's what makes it such a fab place!

Thank you Shazz,
I try to be positive because negativity affects others just as much as positive vibes do.

That's why I made my one place here where I can let out my feelings.

I will be honest, there are good days and bad days. More especially now that I am tapering off with the prednizone. When I feel sad, I just try and think back to May, when and the spiritual revelations I was having and it helped a bit..

the biggest source of anxiety I am dealing with is having to deal with paperwork for the Medicaid and Dissability, It is like walking around and around in a maze with each person telling me one thing and then another telling me something else.

still, I press on. I am determined to get this paperwork completed. All these dr's want their money but no one wants to fill out the paperwork.

Then add to that, most of the medications that are prescibed for treating chron's are on the list of drugs that will interact with my psych meds...

I have researched the MM and think that is my best option but right now I am still in Post op care so the THC will throw any lab work off ...

Thank you for your support Lizzy
