Hi all! I am new the this site and very newly diagnosed (May 24th). I just got back from a follow up appointment with my doctor. Crohn's was confirmed and he started me on a treatment plan. Prednisone (40mg/day for 7 days then taper off) and Asacol (2-400mg pills 3 times a day). He says by the time I am done with the prednisone I will be in remission.
I'm a little hesitant to believe that he KNOWS I will be in remission after 1 month of prednisone. Is it typical for people to go into remission after that?
Any information on either drug would be helpful!
Thanks for reading!

Hi Kate, welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about the diagnosis.

I would imagine how quickly and how effectively Prednisone gets you in to remission depends on the severity of your disease. I do know that there are drugs intended to get you in remission (like Prednisone) and drugs intended to keep you in remission (maintenance medications).

Do you know what your symptoms/warning signs are so that if you do not achieve remission, you will be able to do something about it/communicate that to your doctor?

It does seem a little cocky on the part of your doc to assume you will be in remission by then, but maybe he is just trying to be optimistic. Hopefully he is right and your maintenance meds keep you there for a long time!
