Hey guys, I need some help on a personal subject. Lately my right testicle has been feeling really different. It feels almost as if there is constant pressure or somebody is squeezing it. It's just the right one though, and when I looked I don't see or feel anything out of the ordinary. It seems to come and go in waves also. I do notice though that I did find a small hemerhoid on my bum so I'm wondering if it could be linked and I'm feeling the pain from that moving up or if they're separate issues.

I just started riding a bike to work about a month ago and I bike approx. 10km round trip but I can't remember when the feeling started. It just started bothering me last week and then I was going to go to the clinic and it stopped "hurting" It doesn't really hurt, but it's definitely uncomfortable.

I noticed the thread where the ladies husband was having similar issues but I read a lot online that these kinds of problems are a lot more common in the left testicle as it hangs lower, and has more importance (lol).

Does anyone have any similar problems or can anyone give me advice (besides the obvious "go to the doctor") I'm going to call as soon as I'm done typing this and check the hours so I can go after work tomorrow or the next day hopefully. It sucks because I don't have a GI so I'm pretty much relying on a clinic I go to which is really good and the doctor said he's willing to prescribe crohns meds if needed. Should I try and go on a short term period of prednisone and see what happens?

Thanks guys

I did some quick reading online (http://www.ibsgroup.org/forums/topic/99517-testicular-pain-and-other-problems-with-ibs/) and noticed some people had similar issues. Some people mentioned that they noticed the problem was on the same side as their stomach pain and they think their bloating/pain causes it. I don't know if that is applicable or helps you but just some additional information for you. Good luck, hope it works out.

Thanks for the responses guys. Orangeleprechaun- I don't have any bloating or abdominal pain. I don't have any other symptoms of crohns at all right now.
Ethan- its constant when its present, but I could go one day with all day/night, but then wake up the next day and its gone. I'm still biking everyday and working a full time joib so its not a pain that limits me or anything, but like today when I was grocery shopping I found it uncomfortable when I stopped to look at something and felt I needed to keep moving.

Its kind of like restless leg syndrome. It doesn't really hurt but when you're sitting there it can be really annoying.

I had a similar condition when I initially became ill. It involved both, and the only comparison I could make at the time was to the condition we referred to way back in the old days as ' Blue.... errr, Oyster Cult' OK, it wasn't Oyster Cult, but it did rhyme with calls. I couldn't find another living male soul on here who had similar symptoms (at that time), my doctors didn't consider it pertinent, and there was no physical aspect to this cramp like/pressure that I was feeling almost constantly. Nothing out of the ordinary when examined by me, mate or doctors. And, unlike those blue thing a magigs I referred to above... neither sex, orgasm, etc., did anything to alleviate the symptoms.

Fortunately, it did go away... but it wasn't a pleasant experience, and I wouldn't want to undergo it again. I don't know if that is any help, or even consolation. All the best.

Hey Kev, I was looking at the "blue (fill in the blank lol) and from what I read it was from getting aroused but never "releasing" that "extra" stuff lol but I can't think of that being a problem for me. I work with a bunch of guys so there's no arousal going on there and sexually, everything is normal at home with my fiance. We tried having sex more also and like you said it gave no relief. I also tried sitting in the bath for it because it works for other pains and it didn't do anything either.

Its really hard to explain though because it doesn't hurt. Its just really uncomfortable. I can't explain the feeling but yes its not nice. Yesterday it was hurting again but by bed time it was much better, I went to work today with no problems and now tonight the feeling is back again.

I've recently had a similar problem with the right-hand one, which in my case is the one that hangs lower, and are not really that pain, but a couple of times it has swelled up almost twice the size of the other. After two or three days it seemed to go back to the same size or thereabouts, if it continues I think I will have to go to the Dr, but I'm thinking that it might be just one of those things that happens the guys from time to time.

If yours starts to hurt more or get very tender, it would be a good idea to go to the Dr. And maybe try giving the bike a rest for a few days. Bike seats can be hell on testicles!

Just a hypothesis, but you say you cycle 10KM a day, maybe from all the pressure you're putting on your nuts, it could be a build up of fluid?

Yes I bike 10km a day. Its 5k each way to and from work. I ended up going to the doctor yesterday and he said I have epidymitis. He said its basically a gathering of veins and sometimes they just get swollen. He said it should heal itself but ordered an ultrasound to confirm and make sure that's all it is and if it doesn't go away he will give me antibiotics

This could be serious. I used to have the same thing, when I was a kid. Then one day I was skateboarding and it came on again. Only this time, it was worse than ever before. I can't adequately describe how painful it was. I've had kidney stones, and this put kidney stone pain to shame.

I went to the ER, and it turned out I had testicular torsion. The spermatic cord gets twisted, cutting off blood supply. Many times, it will untwist by itself, but if it doesn't, the testicle can literally die. They saved mine, and surgically attached the cord to my scrotum, thus preventing it from happening again.

Trust me when I say you never want to go through that kind of pain. I would see a urologist about it. It may turn out to be nothing, but it's always better to be safe.

This is a very common condition. I was getting this long before i started cycling , for me they said it was the result of scar tissue formed from a vesectomy a few years earlier. I was told to wear underwear that was more supportive . Also the position of the seat on your bike could be causing some issues. I cycle 10 k to work every day and I have moved the seat more forward to give me a more upright position . This helps take the pressure of that area.
Still , best to get it checked out.
Peter.

The doctor actually gave me Cipro for it and it hasn't given me any problems since so it is starting to get better. It's still a little swollen, but no discomfort. PVail, what do you mean by move the forward? I tried tilting it forward and back but couldn't really find anywhere comfortable but I did however raise my seat much higher and now I find I'm putting more weight on my legs/feet than the seat itself so I think that could be helping also.

Raleigh- Thanks for the concerns. I was afraid it was torsion also after reading everything on the internet but thankfully that wasn't the case

Basically it will depend on what type of bike your riding. I meant slide the seat forward on its rails not changing the angle although you might have to a little. if its a race style bike then you can reverse the stem that holds your handle bars so that it points up not downward . This will give you a more upright position and should relief some pressure. I think its important to rest on your sit bones and not your nuts. I had to play around with seat position and stem to get a compromise between correct cycling position and comfort. I think you will find you will get used to a new position and you will enjoy it more if your not causing pain or discomfort.
I actualy bought a Brookes saddle about 3 months ago and although it looked and felt really hard to touch it is extremely comfortable as it blends to your shape so it doesnt squash up into your nuts like most other saddles do.
It took me a while to work this stuff out and to be honest it was worth the hassle.
It may not be the perfect or most efficient but it works for me .

It has actually decreased greatly since I've raised my seat. I have also tipped it back so a slight angle so I am putting the weight on my butt bones but also I feel the difference in my legs. It feels much better and I can also ride much faster with less effort. I'm riding an ironhorse mountain bike. I don't ride it to its full potential though so I'm not riding in any dirt and stuff. Just on the road on the way to work.

Hi there, I have experienced the same strange feeling in my right testicle...it got to a real ache before my right hemicolectomy in 94 & then again in 96 before another resection. I have had a few flares since & it does feel different during those flares. cheers D
