knackered

Hi all. It is Monday and I am knackered. I have no appetite and know its been this way for some time now. My eating habits are shot. I am currently working two part time jobs, and a full time mum to 5 yr old. My unhealthy ways are obvious to me but i just cant seem to do anything about it. My calorie intake is tiny and at 5 foot 9 and weighing 55kilos i look unwell. How i manage to get through each day on minimal food, i dont know. Crohns has made me think about food so differently. Every night i think to myself tomorrow i will have breakfast and try to eat regularly throughout the day but as soon as i wake up, food, no thanks. Its no wonder i feel exhausted. How do you guys deal with the food issues regarding loss of appetite? :yfrown:

hey snookums,
Sorry to hear about your food problems, but I can understand where you are coming from. I often have no appetite in the morning, and don't usually eat until after noon. It is important however that you keep your energy up and do your best to get adequate nutrition. I know this can be hard when you are feeling nauseous or are worried about the effects that the food will have on your stomach. I find sometimes the best thing to do is just to snack constantly - this will help keep your energy up without forcing a big meal down. Also, try to eat high protein foods that will keep you going . I find some of the best foods for me are tuna and salmon. Salmon is especially good because it is high in protein as well as Omega 3 fat and DHA (which can help to lower inflammation). It is also easily digestible generally, and I don't have any problems with it.
Tofu is also a good idea, they sell these premarinated packs in the supermarket (my favourite is the honey soy) and you can just cut a square of these and microwave them, which I find is a good high protein, easily digestible food (its also nice to have on rice).
As to the loss of appetite, I find it generally comes and goes (I'm on steroids at the moment so I have crazy eating frenzies at random times), but if you are truly worried maybe you should check with your GP. They might be able to help with some anti-nausea drugs or something.
Anyways - snack, snack, snack because any food that you can eat and absorb is doing you good.

Anyways, I hope that helps.

I have no hunger what so ever but I still eat because the alternative just brings on different problems. Not being nourished is very unhealthy. When I do have my moments of skipping out on food I have more pain after when I do eat. Small meals throughout the day is recommended for most. Try maybe if you want to gain some weight sipping on some ensures or boosts throughout the day, along with small meals throughout the day. I have not felt hungry in years but I do get very weak and dizzy and feel like I am going to pass out when I do not eat.
