Hi guys how are you all going, So i;m finding that coming off the pred i;m experiecning different side effects. when i left the hospital the other week i started out on 50mg and had night sweats, could not sleep, knee pain, and an apitite that would challange a horse...I start on 30mg tomorrow and the past week or so have been feeling a little bloaty and gassy with stomach pain and tenderness. I'm not sure if its just from the massive week at work i had, maybe something i ate differently but my diet hasnt really changed or if its more side effects of the pred, or i am due for that time of month starting this week....ah the joys of not knowing sometimes is so frustrating..

I;m off to see my specialist for the first time tomorrow since i was first diagnised in august and then when i had my flare up and first 5 days sting in hospital nearly a month ago now.. boy o boy have i got some questions lined up for him

Pred tends to be something that reacts differently in different people. when i was on it, i had really bad insomnia...but once i tapered down to a lower dose this got much better. and did also experience night sweats etc.. although i didnt experience and stomach pain or knee pains.... infact those are two things ive been experiencing in the last week since i came off the pred!

Im sure the specialist will be able to awnser and questions you have tho! pred can be awesome for making people feel better, i was also in hospital for 5 days when i first got diagnosed and i was literally bouncing off the walls when i was on the stuff... but sometimes the side effects can be a pain aswell.

Welcome, Amy.
Lots of info and experiences by many here with Pred. We all react differently but the side effects you describe sound typical. The bloating, insomnia and voracious appetite will go away as you taper off the pred. The drug is no fun and I hope you are able to find a long-term maintenance drug that works for you.

I know what you mean about the night sweating and insomnia, appetite boost, gas and bloating too, got all that now. :-( I'm on 40mg (20 morning and 20 afternoon)I take that until the 29th where the doc will tell me whats next I guess. I never thought about the sweating being a part of it but its been around 30 degrees at night and the heat hasnt been on, so .. lol. I've noticed now I get lower back pain from it, and thats funny because I searched google and seen that prednisone is prescribed for lower back pain. weird. The side effects suck but if you arent having 20 D's a day It might be a good thing for now right?

I had night sweats when I took predisone at night. Take it in the morning.
:-( my doctor says when I wake up and before dinner :-( I was gonna take it all in the morning but I don't weigh enough I guess

thanks so much guys for your support. is great chatting to people that actually experience and go through this too. So i seen the specialist today and i wasnt too happy. but until i completely ween off the pred he cant lower my current high dose of mesasal (16 tablets a day). at the moment its the pred that is controlling if i flare up or not he said (is that right). Now im scared that when i finally do go off it that i could flare up again. man i dont want to be on pred all the time.

Try not to worry too much guys. The slower the taper, usually the less rebound flaring occurs. I would start to feel abdominal tenderness, that was a warning for me to slow down on the taper, but talk to your doctor first.
