large intestine removal

Hello, fortunatley i'm not a sufferer of IBD or Crohn's however my wife, who is now 36, was diagnosed with Crohns at 18, for half of her life now she has struggled with the daily slog involved with crohn's, from diagnosis she has been on various forms of medication including up until very recently infliximab, as crohns has been most aggressive in her large bowel her specialist thought it was time to giver her bowel a rest and she underwent a loopostomy hoping to improve her quality of life, and hoping her medication would have more effect on a resting bowel, at first things went great, and once she got used to having a stoma and the daily routine of bag changing, things improved, however following an MRI scan which revealed that her crohns was still as aggressive as ever, her specialist then said her next and only possible step was to have her large intestine removed, my wife being as she is point blank refused and said that this would possibly be an option if she could no longer bear her life not being her own, her doctor understood and between themselves they thought taking any of her current medication was not helping so she stopped taking anything, as a concerned husband i have always spent time looking at alternative options and we gave probiotics a try, fantastic! she turned into a different person, she had so much energy and become so much more positive, but she was still having to be close by to a toilet, we thought maybe the loopostomy was stopping the probiotics reaching the large intestine and having its full effect, and following a futher MRI scan this revealed there had been no improvement in the large bowel, she is now begining to accept that she will have to have the operation however she has so many concerns and does not see her specialist again for another 2 months, her biggest concern are abcess's, having had around 10 removed over the course of 7 years her biggest fear is that these will continue after surgery, or will the tracks that cause the abcess's become redundant? can anyone help with this??
