I'm set to have LASIK on my eyes tomorrow and am starting to mildly panic. I've worn glasses/contacts for 30+ years and have wanted to have LASIK done for the past 13 or so years. I've been to a few Doctors who have all said I'm a candidate for the procedure but always freaked out and decided not to do it. Well, tomorrow is the day. I'm going to do it! But I'm wondering if anyone has done it while on Remicade. I'm wondering about the corneal flap healing correctly since Remicade sometimes slows down the healing process. I did endure a Hysterectomy two months ago and have healed wonderfully. But still....it's MY EYES!!!!

So, anyone have a story to share? Whether on Remicade or not...please tell me I'm going to be ok :thumright:

I'm assuming your eye doctor is aware that you're on Remicade, so what did they say about it? Did they say the healing process might take longer etc? This is the first time I've seen it mentioned on this site.

One thing I wonder is if your Crohn's is under control because it can affect the eyes (even certain meds can affect the eyes). I know you have to make sure your eyes aren't already being affected before you get glasses and I can only imagine that the same goes for corrective eye surgery.

Doc said it won't be a problem. But I don't always trust doctors because they seem to be afraid to say "I don't know" sometimes. I've been in remission for almost a year and only had eye issues once when I was first diagnosed 7 years ago. At my appt earlier this week, they dilated my eyes and did a full exam. Everything was good. I'm going to ask my doctor again today just to ease my fears...if that's possible.

Good luck today! I had LASIK 3-4 years ago, but I was in remission and not on any meds. My vision is still 20/20 and it was the best thing I'd ever done! My husband had it done a couple days before or after me (can't remember) and he's had the same success. I had horrible, horrible vision with astigmatisms. I was actually on the commercial for the clinic afterwards.

Thank you! I keep hearing people say, "BEST THING I've ever done!" and that makes me feel better. I don't have astigmatism but my prescription is -5. I'll be happy even with 20/40.
