leaking and venting

hi all,

i just got home from a job interview this morning with a judge (i am a newly licensed attorney and am applying for a job as a judicial law clerk) and i felt the need to vent about what happened on my way there. hopefully, this isn't too gross for you guys - i figure this is the best place i have to share this kind of thing!

i was really not feeling well this morning, but decided it was best to go to the interview, since i am trying to start on a new career path, and i am really really hoping to get this job. i had been up a lot of the night with very urgent bouts of diarrhea, and that continued while i was getting ready to head out for the interview. since i was going so much, and it was coming so strongly, i decided to wear some "feminine hygeine" products to protect myself if anything happened - which totally saved my life. when i got to the interview (thankfully i was early), i got out of the car and...well...let's just say i didn't quite make it to the restroom...thank god i was able to clean myself up so there was nothing left on me or my clothes, and i don't think i smelled or anything since i had portable cleansing wipes with me. i pretty much held my breath and stayed as still as i could during the interview (which went pretty well, all things considered), and made my way safely home.

i was spared any major embarrassment today, and i am grateful for that. but, being 26 years old and having to worry about whether i should be wearing depends is pretty ridiculous! i have to have a sense of humor about it to some degree - otherwise i'd really go crazy. and, thankfully, this isn't something that happens to me very often - i think i accidentally drank some regular coffee yesterday that i thought was decaf, and i really really can't handle caffeine, so i guess i need to be a bit more careful with that.

i guess i don't really have anything else in the way of insights or anything to add...i pretty much just wanted to vent to a group that i thought might understand. thanks for reading this! and, if any of you have any tips on natural or non-immodium treatments to at least slow diarrhea down and not give horrible pain at the same time (that's what immodium does to me), please pass those on! it would be much appreciated.

Glad to hear you made it through your interview okay. I recently got out of the hospital and saw the doctor yesterday. Much to my surprise, he actually told me it was okay to take imodium. I told him it caused pain and that I even suspected it partially contributed to the abscess and fistula that landed me in the hospital. But he still said it was okay.

I told him I didn't want to take imodium so he prescribed me some Questran. It's a powder drink mix that is supposed to help form your stools more. It doesn't work like imodium. And it doesn't work as well either. But yesterday it did get me through a lunch and back home without any incidents. The restuarant was about 40 miles away and it was a long lunch. I had a light serving of lasagne. But by the time I got home I was ready to go.

But you can't take it when you take your medication because it could absorb the medication and make it ineffective.

I think I'd stay away from Imodium because it is just way too strong -- but it's good to hear you have some other options and are already back out there . . .

If you don't want to use your feminine hygiene stuff you could always take toilet paper and shove it into the general area. It's great because it doesn't allow anything to pass it.

Best of luck with the interview

Yes I've done that pre-stoma days... any port in a storm!

We've all been there and done that, there's no one understands this kind of thing like a fellow crohnie! Really, its amazing how we adapt to these situations, and it sounds to me like you did admirably!

I had the trouble with bleeding . Once at work someone asked me If I had sat in catsup. I haven't bled like that in a while. But have been out jogging and had to make a mad dash home barely making it.

When you are cramping like that try pressing really hard between your thumb and finger (pressure point) you may need to switch hands a few times - it may give you just enough time to get to the restroom. Good luck

Yeah, I too can totally relate to those "accident" days as many others have said, we have all been there. I once had an accident when I had been to visit my grandmothers grave, I got back to the car but had to drive 15 miles home after I'd had the accident. . . . .definately gross!!!

Light Pants Fem protect

I am a 50 year old male and I have, on many occasions worn "Maxi Pads" to help save embarrassment.

I have two fissures and of course the threat of rapid release bowels. I had a lot of drainage from the fissures so I almost always wore protection and as a rule, dark colored pants.

I had setons placed in the fissures and that has stopped the drainage, and calmed everything else down as far as swelling and pain goes. I also was placed on Prednisone and that helped with my BM's.

I can now wear light colored pants without fear of staining.

Small pleasures are embraced.

Well whilst we are on this subject... I'll tell my story of what happened to me a week ago. Well I'm on Humira... and now I can eat whatever I want and drink whatever I want... or so I thought. Well that day I had taco bell and an italian sub (i know sooo stupid)... anyhow I wasnt feeling well and it was about 11 oclock when I left my bfs house to take care of a neighbors dog. I almost made it... but right as I got out of the car ... there it went. I was so devasted one, because I've never had an accident like that before... and two because I'm in remission. And I had to clean up the neighbors bathroom and everything. Good thing they were on vacation.... but it was horrific.

Never, eat an apple first thing in the morning and take fish oil with it.

Didn't have an accident, but I walked quickly to the can. Verrry quickly.

He he I had the same problem while on a date with a young lady. I just made my apologies and went home as quickly as possible.
