Hi all!

So my 16 year old son just finished his 3rd Remicade treatment and I am pleased to say he has gained 32 pounds since starting!

So his GI doc called a couple days after the infusion and the blood work they took before starting the infusion showed elevated liver levels. What does this mean?

Thanks in advance

Valerie

Is he still on the antibiotics? Or Methotrexate? Generally they will redo the blood work and see if the levels come down by themselves. It's less common with Remicade than with medications like MTX or 6MP.

If his liver numbers continue to stay high then they will decide if he can stay on the medication that is elevating them - if they're really high, the medication will usually be stopped - either temporarily or permanently and your GI will have to come up with a plan B. There are other biologics that can be tried - Humira, Cimzia, Stelara or Entyvio - so I wouldn't panic yet.

Considering he is doing well on Remicade, I would guess they will try to keep him on it unless it is affecting his liver too much.

I guess I wouldn't be too concerned just yet. We've had the occasional blip here and there and usually by the next blood draw things are back to normal again. It sounds like you're having great results with Remicade!
