First time I am posting. I have been on Humira for close to 5 years taking 1 shot every two weeks. I have had some side effects, Shingles being the worst. I also had pnemonia about 18 months ago and had to delay my shots for 5 weeks. Other than that I am in complete remission.

I decided to post because I have seen some many people asking the same question regarding duration of the medications and no real long time users posting. I would guess that most long time users do not post because they are in remission and do not follow the boards as closely as they may have previously.

My Dr. is of the belief that I should stay on it for as long as it works. I keep up on all of my monitoring so I if something ever popped up we would catch it fairly early.

Humira has changed my life. I constantly question myself on whether I should continue to take it but then I think back to how horrible my life was before I started to take it. I was one step away from major surgery.

Hope this helps a little bit.

I am very happy to hear this. My son started Humira in February after Remicade failed. I am always looking for a positive story. So many just frighten me even more.

Thank you so much for your post...I have been on Humira for 2 years. I'm not in total remission but I have not had any major flares :).

Good to hear! 19 months myself, my only gripe so far is that my seb dermatitis is harder to treat, but other than that, all good.

Tdog I have one ? for u when u r getting close to ur next dosage do u have any warning signs? I have only taken my first 2 double shots and taking my 3rd set this friday, I have noticed lately like with in the last 2-3 days that the bloating and after I eat pain is returning was thinking of calling them (being my Dr) and asking if I could take it earlier or not. Any advice would be very welcomed.

I've been on Humira exactly 5 years now, mostly healthy (until now) despite one random obstruction/perforation that wasn't caused by a failure of Humira. I think I'm starting to develop tolerance to it as I've been in a flare for about 6 months, may be switching to Cimzia, but I'm grateful for what it's done for me over the last 5+ years.
