Hi all -
I'm looking for advice. On Nov 21 I had an MRI performed on me and I was found to have an abscess. Also found to have a "hemorrhagic cyst involving the right ovary. Trace physiologic pelvic fluid." To treat the abscess I was started on oral Levaquin and Flagyl. I finished a three week course of the antibiotics on Dec 12. I had a follow-up MRI done on Dec 19th.
The Dec 19th MRI found that the abscess is still there but it is smaller. Specifically the report says: "the previously documented and partially septated 2.5 x 2.5 x 4.5 cm interloop abscess, superior to the bladder and anterior to the uterine fundus, has now diminished to a midly enhancing 1.5 x 1.5 x 1.2 cm lobulated solid soft tissue focus that has no internal nonenhancing cavity."
I started another course of antibiotics (Levaquin and Flagyl). My GI doctor told me to have another MRI in a month. I interpret that as scheduling it around December 16th. He also said I should have the MRI three days before I stop the antibiotics. The current prescription runs out on Jan 7th.
I am not having the pelvic and abdomen pain that made me go in for the original MRI. I am having fatigue - which I associate with Crohn's disease and muscle soreness/joint pain. The muscle soreness/joint pain is new for me. I don't know if it is related to Crohn's, the Levaquin, or anxiety. I was scheduled to have Remicade on Jan 8th, but have been told to hold off on Remicade until the abscess is cleared.
When do you all think I should get the follow-up MRI? 3 weeks after the second MRI? Or should I ask my GI doctor for additional prescription for antibiotics and go for one more week on the antibiotics? I will of course follow-up with my GI doc, but was looking for some advice from others who may have been in the same position. I'm not feeling that confident that my GI doctor is really keeping on top of my case (We've had a few lapses of communication, including my stopping the antibiotics earlier because I thought he only wanted me to do a 3 week course).
I also have to schedule a visit with my gynecologist to look into the ovarian cyst. ugggh.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
