Thought I would start this thread after hijacking one of Matty's. Sorry.

I have UC and find it very hard to loose weight.
I get the whole 'well you are not loosing weight so you cant be that ill'.

I have always found it hard even before I knew I had problems. I can put weight on just by smelling food but no matter what I do it takes forever to loose it.

Was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and what you did to loose the weight.

Before this flare started I was going to the gym 4 times a week, running and eating healthy. Very active lifestyle. In 1 year I only lost 10lb. It is really frustrating.

I have not actually put on any weight since my flare started but cant shift the exsisting weight.

Sorry for going on but its doing my head in!!!

I feel your pain Sharon. I'm having trouble losing the few pounds that my doc said I should shed. I am NOT an active person...my biggest problem is finding healthy foods I can eat! I can eat pretty much anything I want...but it has to be in moderation. ie, I cannot eat raw veggies everyday...i have to limit it to once or twice a week. Tomato sauce is a killer for me...and alfredo is more fattening. It's definitely not impossible...but it's tough!
I say just keep what you are doing. I know it's frustrating to only lose 10lbs in a year...but at least you are able to do that! That's something, right??

Sorry I couldn't be more help. Good luck!

Hi Manders.
Thanks for replying. I have not lost any weight this year due to being unable to eat any fruit and only being able to eat carrots and a little bit of cauliflower once a week.
Am not active as much now either because I am soooo tired all the time.
I am really glad I have not put any weight on this year, which I am really surprised at.
Hope you are well.

Are you really wanting to lose weight, or change what your body looks like??

I found that even though i was at my ideal weight I had a big belly, losing weight didnt change that (it was due to inflamation).

Weight doesnt mean anything, at my optimum I was overweight on the bmi index due to being musclular. Its all about looking good for yourself. It seems I say this a lot but I really recommend interval training. Its high intensity training for short amounts. This doesnt allow you body to get into a routine thus making it more difficult (and using up more energy). I do a 2mile jog to warm up, then 1 mile jogging/sprinting in between lamposts. Honestly the 1mile is much much harder than the 2mile jog. just make sure you take everything easy, and only change one thing (exercise routine or diet etc) at a time and give it at least 2wks (month idelly) to see how your stomach copes

Hi Rygon,
Thanks for replying. I do need to loose weight.

I have been on a low residue diet since March and have been slowly introducing new foods each week. I cannot tolerate any fruit and very little veg. I am living on mashed potato, white rice, pasta, fish and chicken. I have tried to introduce vitamin supps into my routine as well but they make me ill. I will try them again soon though.
I am seeing my gastro on Friday so will ask about it then.

I saw a dietician a few months ago but all she told me was I am overweight, need to eat 5 fruit and veg a day and get more exersize. Really, I never would have thought of that!!

I do try to exersize each day but I struggle with joint pain and fatigue. Plus lack of decent food really doesnt help.

I will try the interval training even if I only do 2 minutes or so.

My lovely husband has said that he will take me to the local gym some evenings if I feel up to it. Might take him up on it.

It happened to me in the past too.

Drink one or two cans of Ensure Plus a day.

Hi Sharon,

I can see you said your hubby might take you to the gym of you're feeling up to it, when I joined my local gym they make a programme for you based on what you want to do like tone up, lose weight etc. They might be able to come up with something that isn't too strenuous or painful for your joints but helps you shift some weight.

Sorry I can't be more help!

I am now FAT. After Stan was born I was skin and bones. Only in the last couple of months have I gotten HUGE for me. You and I need to diet. Only when you arent eating much anyway, not on pred, and still gaining weight...methinks something is wrong with BOTH of us!?
