Hi Dana,
Are you reintroducing food after being on the formula exclusively? I think I remember you were ending the diet just after school started???... Is that why the 'low fibre' diet?
When my son reintroduced foods after the six weeks of formula, his dietitian gave him a fairly detailed program to reintroduce foods:
1. low fibre foods - rice, white bread (BUT NO SEEDS on buns), pasta, potato (no skin), plain crackers, plain muffins, low fibre cereal (no milk). He was allowed a 'SMALL' amount of toppings like a dab of butter, nutella, cream cheese, 'strained' (no seeds or tomato chunks) tomato sauce, etc. - 3 to 4 days.
Some ideas that I remember giving him - broth with rice or potato, toasted tortilla dipped in strained salsa, pasta with a little butter and tomato sauce or one triangle of melted low fat Laughing Cow cheese, handful of Special K/Rice Krispies to snack on, 'baked' french fries, etc.
2. low fat meats - eggs, chicken, fish, beef, etc. - 3 to 4 days
Ideas - low fat chicken bacon, eggs, homemade home 'fries' (baked) (Breakfast is his favourite meal so this was a 'winner'! LOL :dance
3. soft fruits and veggies - no skins, no membranes (i.e. skin around orange segments), no seeds (i.e. strawberries, raspberries, grape, cucumber, tomato) - 3 to 4 days
4. low fat dairy and/or alternatives - 3 to 4 days
All other foods were then reintroduced, as tolerated. The only foods he's been told to always avoid are nuts (smooth peanut butter/nutella is fine, just no 'pieces' of nuts), seeds (sesame, sunflower, raspberries, strawberries, cucumber, tomato, etc.), corn/popcorn, 'skins/peels' (apple skin, potato skin, etc.).
I believe juices were allowed throughout but I avoided juice with pulp.
As much as possible, I introduced foods one at a time to make sure he was okay with each food (ie, I didn't give him the chicken bacon and egg together for the first time...)
(hmmm, corn dogs... I really don't know but...I think the corn dogs might be closer to the end of the list! LOL)
Good luck! I'm sure you're enjoying finally getting some real food (low fibre or not!). :ycool:
