So basically, my dad is a GP and has been very helpful in speeding things along in the slow and torturous process of having this disease - I recently had to get an appointment with a surgeon, but instead of the standard 4 to 6 weeks wait I got to see someone in a week (because of his contacts) which was really good.
Now I am at the point where my azathioprine has presumably stopped working.
After 2 blissful months of remission some symptoms crept back slowly but surely - I'm getting fluctuating abdominal pain every single day now, it comes and goes and at its worst is like what I imagine labour pains to feel like. I'm not getting any diarrhea which is odd, but instead just blood and mucus, and these fucking abdo pains every day which are apparently not bad enough to warrant any change in treatment ffs.
I went to the emergency room last night with the massive stomach cramps, because I was fed up and wanted this process to speed up so I could get some actual treatment. I waited for 7 hours only for them to tell me my inflammation levels were up (which I already knew) and they just sent me away with a prescription for codeine, because they didn't want to put me on prednisone without the input of the rarely open, small, slow and shitty Gastro department of the hospital.
So me and my GP father are considering fudging the CDAI index required for a humira prescription, just because they won't give me anything except Aza at the moment (and not even prednisone), and the Aza has CLEARLY STOPPED WORKING. We understand that they are always reluctant to give it out just because it's such an expensive drug, but I am sick of being told to take painkillers - they won't even give me freaking prednisone for fucks sake :ymad:.
Is this something anyone else has ever done?? i.e. lied about their symptoms to get a treatment that actually works, because they won't give me anything else despite the Aza failing????
Edit: I am in New Zealand, where you need 300 points on the "index" to warrant Humira. As evaluated by the hospital last night, I'm on 198 points apparently.
