tried to "like" Buffs post but the begging/asking request was in the way....no matter, I totally agree with Buff's thread. This forum has not asked for "payment" as long as I've been a member but if people want to donate, that's fine....Just PLEASE don't interfere with the threads with your requests....It's beginning to feel like a DEMAND

The neighbor put on a good dinner with a big turkey with all the fixings, I ate too much and had a lousy night last night. It was worth it, we all had a good time. Its been a quiet holiday, despite the snow cover very few are riding snowmobiles this year, usually its buzzing like a bee's nest around here.

I don't know what to make of it, but ignore it for now, same as the biting flies we get in the summer months.

Misty here this morning and had a walk into town for fresh bread,The sun emerged on our walk home which was pleasant. We had the winter solstice on the 21st so the days are getting longer by seconds/minutes a week, but it;s dark by 4pm and still dark until after 8am.But it will be Spring before we know it eh?.....

Its a gray foggy day with temperatures at or just above the freezing mark, a lousy day by all measures. Every season has its trade offs, in winter we get a break from the biting flies and everything else that bites and chews. Winter in the rural areas has its advantages with frozen lakes one can go just about anywhere. My favorite seasons are winter and the latter part of the summer and fall.

Unfortunately spring around here is cold, wet with wet snows, followed by the black flies known for driving people insane. But once summer is established comes the nice weather, it is a short season at our latitude, winter is never far away.
I went in for groceries and the stores were quiet, no lines at the checkouts, and traffic was light.
Gentle snowfall 0C

One has to role with the punches and cut a whole bunch of firewood and for the most part it will do around here. I've been to Texas once, and given their climate and culture I'm a little jealous of the lifestyle you have there and the standard of living. The Texans I met were very friendly and generous, the food amazing and I could go on...

Buff, do you live in a rural area? Can you raise chickens, plant vegetables and fruit trees? What was your main occupation before retirement? Do you have a companion, children?

Feel free not to answer if you’d rather keep these private. I’m always interested in rural life, adjusting to the climate and geography, self sufficiency, enriching the environment etc.

What’s more, and may be linked to that donation issue, is the new admin’s irresponsible attitude towards a “problem” that wasn’t there, ever before, in this forum. He has made numerous promises, seemingly apologises, but doesn’t address the issue and acts like nothing has happened, keeps on going creating a new thread about “hobbies and interests”.

Maybe I’m old school, but I have always measured a fellow man’s worth first and foremost through how much of a man of his words he is.

To me, since he still hasn’t solved this problem even though he promised to, even giving a date to solve it a few times, and his non-transparent attitude seem suspicious and makes me question for some time now whether he deliberately cancelled the editing, especially since the emboldened part is the only selling point of a payed membership “benefits”

View attachment 5050

Running a forum is a somewhat risky business (if you approach it as a business), it is pricey; and I wouldn’t have any issues with donations etc, I think it’s a reasonable way of keeping the site running; but not like this.

If he is genuine about fixing the disappearance of the editing option, but he cannot achieve that due to whatever, he should’ve explained that openly and sincerely. Instead he keeps promising he will fix it by this day or that day, apologizing etc but nothing gets fixed and doesn’t acknowledge or give explanations for him not keeping the promises he made.

Alternatively, he could have written “this is my forum, I bought it, this is the way things will be” and I would have no issues with that either. I would simply stop using his forum.

WHY are they doing this ???? it's really annoying
Not a bad day considering what's on the way in a day or two, 10c and calm if a little grey

He (or they, whoever the new owner may be) wants to make money off of sick people while disregarding them by not showing basic virtues like honesty and openness.

He has been lying from the beginning when he said he was going to fix the issue. He never intended to fix it. It was deliberate. He wants to sell membership to Crohn’s patients or their loved-ones; and the only practical advantage of a payed membership is that it provides you with post editing and deletion options.

Being grumpy is gonna raise your BP and stress level. That's not good for IBD patients. Since weather is the reason for chatting in this thread, how is the weather where you are crohn2357?

Note: The site is a little awkward to navigate, but not impossible. It's as scottsma said a few days ago, they haven't required that we subscribe yet. Meanwhile, sunny and mild in central Texas!!🫡

I don't like the changes, but it is inline of what is happening to the entire internet, and none of it is good. I don't see what is gained by removing editing tools. The site owner would gain far more by asking for donations from Big Pharma.
The main thing is our online community remains, we can lean on each other, offer support and have a laugh or two.

I've had a bad cold the past three days. Began with sore throat, then moved to dripping faucet nose and now last stages of barking like a dog! Believe I'll make!

This week, 20 years ago I was recovering from a full blockage and was diagnosed with Crohn's. My GI had me schedule a CT-e scan, which was for tomorrow. Of course I had to reschedule....now in January. Have any of you had this particular scan? I've had an MRI and a CT-a. I dread drinking the faux Gatorade. 😵‍💫

Very windy and wet.It say's 11c but they're lying !!!..thank goodness my "First Footing" days are over, though they were very enjoyable ,if I remember.. Hugs and everything you wish for yourselves in 2025 and remember......don't take laxatives and sleeping pills at the same time and if you see a toilet in your dream DON'T use it...it's a trick !!!!

Happy new year everyone, hope everyone has a healthy and peaceful new year

It will be a regular evening for me as I am a night owl. I usually watch the fireworks coming from Chicago on TV at midnight, then have a night cap, toss a log into the furnace, crawl into bed. Wake up in the morning look out at the starkness of the new year in a cold house. Rummage for wood, light the fire and start the new year, making breakfast as the house warms up, and hoping for that trip to the outhouse.

You sound like the "mountain man" in the 1800s western novels written by William W Johnstone! A hardy breed! One exception... that Chicago TV station! 😃 Enjoy!

Nice sunny start to the New Year but with a cold gusty wind and 4c.Just got in the front door after a walk (I would like to say BRISK walk, but those days are over for us,alas) when the rain started,,,but we;re on the right side of Xmas so we'll look forward to Spring with patience and no whinging.....well not much anyway.....Best Wishes friends

Wish I had your discipline to get out and walk everyday! Especially when the weather is cold. It's 43° and I've been out only to feed my cat, Bootsie! 😺

I get antsy if we have to stay indoors...but my husband has dementia and is slowing down a lot,so If I can get him outdoors we both feel better,I have to admit though that our mantra is "well it was nice to get out but it's good to be home " especially at this time of year....we take turns saying it.

That's sweet.
My sister has Alzheimer's. Her 3 daughters are her caregivers. I'm the oldest of seven siblings and at the moment, she can still remember me. We talk on the phone and I spend that time trying to cheer her with happy chatter and let her vent if she's inclined which isn't so often any longer. Your husband is blessed that you have a caregivers heart, intuned to his needs. Blessings to you both.

Pretty much with my looks too, some come into the yard and are taken aback when I am working on the firewood effort. I would fit in well on shows like Port Protection, daily life is not that much different; remote all forest and lakes around here.
New Years came in like any other evening, had a run n orange juice followed by my favorite soup as my fourth meal of the day. Woke up, lit the fire, made breakfast and I am here now.

I had to look up Port Protection.....Yep, that is what I was imagining! 😂

Are you in central are mountain standard time zone? I couldn't be sure.

The only thing missing is the ocean and its moderating effect, otherwise its bush lakes and I enjoy subsistence living. Its the central time zone here we are not quite that far west. I believe Texas is on our time too. My hernia has been acting up, so I did little yesterday. I have a follow up appt for the ultrasound done on it in two weeks, given how it feels I am looking forward to surgery, living with it is not pleasant, and I want to get back into the saddle so to speak.
17C breezy, trips to the outhouse are motivating in these conditions.

Just got back from the doctor a few moments ago. All went well for the most part, the vampires took some blood from me though. Since I still get occasional symptoms, we're increasing the dose to see what happens. I'll see him again in April, now for breakfast and a nap!!!
43 today and it'll be raining.

What management drug are you taking?
The day here has been overcast and in the low 60's. I don't think I've had a freezing temp yet this winter. It was brief, if it did.

Yes, my part of Texas is in the central time zone. Way off to the west is El Paso, TX. It is in mountain time.

Is the hernia the reason for the partial blockage you mentioned a few days back? Take care my friend, eat carefully.

I had a good night's sleep, I found that massaging the hernia area helps as its been bothering me of late. I try to avoid lifting, but there is only so much I can do. The hernia belt helps, but its not something I can wear all the time. When sitting I must take it off. Its been getting colder, last night it went down to -20C, its fresh outside with the breeze, I plugged in the block heater to warm the engine on the truck for easier starting. The wood furnace runs steady, without it I would be look at heating bills worth several thousand dollars which I don't have. The nice thing about wood heat despite the work is that the house is warm and I do not have to layer on clothing, I sit here barefoot as I type.

Nice.

Where is the hernia located?

Where do you get the wood?

I cut deadfall on my property, the trees that die and the ones that come down in storms, and I get a load on a logging truck once every two years delivered in lengths that I have to cut with a chainsaw and up until this year I split by hand using an axe. But when the hernia developed I had to buy myself a wood splitter as I cannot split wood with an axe anymore. I miss using the axe for the stretching and aerobic exercise it provided. White birch splits easily, but I must now rely upon a splitter. Without wood for heat, my heating bill would be about $4,000 in this climate for there are no natural gas lines here. Wood heat is standard for most people living rural where natural gas is unavailable.

1C and a beautiful day , not a puff of wind , will be cold tonight , it will feel like -5 c , like a spring day for you Bufford, the hernia's are annoying , I got mine(parastomal as well) just a few months after surgery and the belt has kept it under control and it has not gotten worse in the 10 years , you do have to ease back on the strenuous stuff though .

Hummmm, I've been pushing what I knew felt like a herna where the surgeon cut into me in 2012 when removing a 15" strictured section. I have more painful issues where the resection is at present. I've sort of ignored the little bulge that pops up at times. Guess I'll ask those guys doing my CT-e on the 9th to get a good picture of that area. My hernia doesn't sound as serious as y'all but then I'm not doing heavy work. So far, I just push it back in place ... it hasn't been a big problem... yet!! 😲

Well, I got back out into the world today after 7 days dealing with that cold. I had my energy back so caught up with some volunteer work I do each week this morning.
We are expecting some freezing, wet weather around the 9-10th, so says the weatherman. That must be coming from your part of the country Bufford. I hope it doesn't come on the 9th. It is a 30 mile drive into Austin for that CT-e!
Today's weather is mild like yesterday.

Same weather as yesterday.....3c,sunny ,no wind.Had a walk to the park and fed the birds.Of course it's impossible to feed them all but every little helps. We feed at the same place every every time and the Jackdaws and Magpies start calling for their monkey nuts.....It stops them stealing the little songbirds feed. We have snow on the way this evening.Buff would find our forecasts hilarious I'm sure....talk about over doing it...

scottema... tell me...how are you entering a smilely character on the thumbs-up line? I can't figure it out without experimenting and I hesitate to do that. Experimenting doesn't always take me where I am expecting! 🤣 Story of my life I think!!!

Not at all Carol, I was born in this cold climate and it's just part of the routine of life. If I may say I much prefer our dry cold to that of maritime climates that tend to carry dampness. As I age, I find the work needed to be comfortable in our climate more difficult, and if I were to make a move it would be to somewhere like Mexico where its warmer, and my pensions would go farther.
The winds were cutting yesterday with temps in the minus teens while doing a supply run, my neighbor came with me, as I did not feel confident with my health, and she needed groceries too. Nothing is easy about living here, but when I was younger it was my dream come true, now not so much.
-25C this morning cracking cold, sunshine under a brilliant cobalt blue sky. Thankful for every stick of firewood.

Buff, I noticed a text quote beside your avatar. It is really small, but I think it says...
"You can take the man out of the wilderness...
But you can't take the wilderness out of the man". Is that correct?
The truth of that quotation is in your whole being and can be heard in the words you write when describing your life in the high country.
What was your vocation before retiring? Did you work in some way in land management or natural resources mgmt. for the province of Ontario?
😺 I'm just thinking outloud... trying to distract you from a fussy autoimmune system causing you and the rest of us grief! 🤺

A nice winter day, the winds died down, sunny a nice day for a walk. -22C. The snow is hard packed, I wont ski for the lack of control. Prior to retirement I worked in the trades, spending most of my time as a boilermaker, made handcrafted knives as a sideline, not always easy with undiagnosed chrons, with doctors constantly guessing what it was. But it was life with no regrets.

Sounds cool! A working man with a creative side.

Weather here today started with some rain early, now (noon) it has cleared, the sun is out and we have a brisk breeze. The temp is 72°. However, we are being warned of coming high winds arriving about midnight tonight with a drop in temp to near freezing. No moisture with this weather change. That will come near the end of the week, I understand.

It's rained for 24hrs or more and is 2c.....the good bit is we have no snow on the ground. There's been some sleet but the ground here is too wet for it to lie.Looks like it's in for the week....I'm fed up with being indoors for 3 days,I've not been in for so long except after surgery and then I was "champing at the bit"....

Today was 28°F and clear at 8am. Weatherman says sunshine for few days before the weather is supposed to turn icy. We shall see. I have to get out today to work on my volunteer project for a short time. Then I'll be staying home most of the week! People are crazy on the roads when ice and snow hit the ground around here! 😵‍💫 I don't want to add to the hazards!
Everyone stay warm!

Another bright winter day, -20C with life in the slow lane. I woke up to knee pain from sleeping on my side, I won't be going anywhere, but may try to walk it off. The government fell, and so did their new tax mandate, good news for a change, and good riddance to them all.
🤔 On January 20th, we'll be making changes too, hopefully for the better! 🤷‍♀️

Been hanging out with my brother. He stopped for an overnight stay on his way to San Antonio from the Ft Worth area.
Now the weatherman has adjusted the forecast from yesterday. Our temps are to be at freezing & above so we will have more rain, less ice/sleet. Fine with me! Y'all stay warm.

I really put out that knee, its only getting better now, and very slowly. I have to go downstairs regularly to feed the wood furnace which is a pain and a challenge; I hobble the stairs, so I make every effort to load the wood right, and make a mental note for anything that needs to be brought upstairs.
I do sleep with a pillow between my legs, for that reason the cat is wary about where she sleeps on the bed and prefers to sleep on my face, because there have been times I have 'used' the cat as a pillow by grabbing her thinking she was the pillow and scissoring her between my legs in my sleep. Because of that she does not sleep down by my legs.
Today I can put one foot in front of the other going up the stairs, but not yet for going down.
-20C sunny and calm, want to go skiing, but I cannot for now.

Oh my gosh bufford, that tussle with cat made laugh!!! 🤣

Another bright sparkly winters day with no wind,so temps at a steady 2-3c
Off to the hairdressers soon for a trim,I look like a sheep dog. a beardie not a border collie.
I'm chuckling at your hair description scottsma. I'm going to google a "beardie" so I have an image in my head! I do not have any idea what a beardie looks like.. but I'll guess it's unruly curly hair! 😅

The leg is working once again, no more hobbling; I can get about, and went for a walk yesterday. It was a sunny bright crisp dry winter day with an afternoon moon. I felt like a pilot without a plane since it was perfect for skiiing, but I didn't want to take chances.
Today is milder, damp and gray, but the sun and the dry cold should return they say.

minus 1c cloudless blue sky and bright sunshine....the sun is low in the sky and it's blazing through the back windows and almost blinding me so I've had to pull down the blinds for an hour or two until it moves away...

beardies are beautiful dogs Carol so I think you are just giving yourself a compliment , can't remember the last time I saw one in the flesh , very rare here along with old english sheepdogs .

6c cold and wet but at least we were spared the snow , we were one of the few places that didn't get hammered by the snow , at lot of people are still without power and water for the last 4 days , we really can't handle cold weather here .

Its a gray day with passing flurries with a light north wind. That little bit of snow freshened up the trails making it tempting to go for a ski. I'll go easy and do the wheelchair loop around out on the lake, I could use a little bit of sun after the gloomy couple of days we had.

41°F, overcast and windy.... it's just cold today! Yesterday there was no ice/snow in my part of state, just rain... really nice, a slow drizzle. I downloaded a good book and read the day away! Well, did put something in the crackpot for my lunch, and did a little bit of sewing on an ongoing project, but mostly I read. That means today I'm doing chores! 🙃 😻
