Hey everyone,
So I am going for my 3rd colonoscopy in about a month and after a bad experience with Suprep last time, I asked for Mag Citrate instead. Last time I tried the suprep took about 1 sip and about threw up because i have bad issues with taste and a horrible gag reflex. I called the doc that night and she had me do a bottle of mag citrate and dulcolax tablets that night and I went in for my scope the next morning (about 12 hours later) and she said i was nice and clean.
They are telling me this time that I can do the mag citrate and dulcolax but that it is a 2 day prep - clear liquids for 2 days with dulcolax the first evening and mag citrate the second. However, I have to work overnight Tuesday night and my scope is Thursday at noon, so obviously this is not going to work. I cannot change the scope and I am not sure that I will be able to get change my shift at work. I can do clear liquids no problem though - i am a nurse so we have lots of clear liquids on our unit since many of our patients get clear liquid diets.
Do you think it would be ok if I started the clear liquids on time but did the dulcolax tablets after work on wednesday and the mag citrate later that day? It is still plenty of time before the scope I think. I know if I call the office they will just tell me to follow their directions but I cannot afford to stay at home for 2 full days plus another day after the scope.
Also, is there any benefit to having them do an upper endoscopy while they are already going in? I have not had an upper before but I am wondering if it would be good just to make sure everything on the upper half is ok. I was told they can add that in at the last minute since it only takes a few minutes and no different prep.
Thanks.
