I know that many parents wonder about make a wish and if their child with crohn's is eligible. Children with crohn's go through so much and really deserve this special opportunity to forget about their illness. My dr. sent me this document from make a wish regarding GI disorders. Maybe this can help someone :)

I think the important part is:
Inflammatory bowel disease resulting in short gut disease, prolonged parenteral support or complications resulting from immunosuppressive therapy or surgery

DEAR GASTROENTEROLOGY HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL,
Make-A-Wish® is a nonprofit organization that grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions. The wish process begins with a referral from a parent/guardian, family member or healthcare professional like you and many of your patients may be eligible for a wish. Please review the eligibility guidance to help identify children within your department that may qualify for a wish. Thank you for helping us reach our vision of granting every eligible child’s wish.

TO QUALIFY FOR A WISH, A CHILD MUST:
Be over the age of 21⁄2 and under the age of 18 at the time of referral;
Be diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition; i.e. a progressive, degenerative or malignant condition that has placed the child’s life in jeopardy;
And not have received a wish from another wish-granting organization.

GASTROENTEROLOGY GUIDANCE:
Within Gastroenterology, there are many conditions that may place a child in a life-threatening situation. Some conditions to consider are:
• Chronic progressive liver disease with decompensation
• Conditions requiring prolonged parenteral nutrition (ex: bowel failure, etc.)
• Malignancy or inherited pre-malignant conditions such as Familial Polyposis Syndrome • Liver transplant (within one year of transplant)
• Status Post Liver Transplant (with ongoing life-threatening complications)
• Bowel transplant
• In ammatory bowel disease resulting in short gut disease, prolonged parenteral support or complications resulting from immunosuppressive therapy or surgery
NEXT STEPS:
• Visit md.wish.org to submit the referral inquiry form to start the wish process for your patient.
• If you have questions about eligibility or the referral process, please contact your local chapter,
which can be found at wish.org/local-chapters.

My son was granted a wish from Make-a-Wish. It came during the year in which he was hospitalized three times, had a small bowel resection, and had been suffering for almost two years.. They don't share the details of what qualified him (and I'm not sure I really want to know), but it was a great experience for both him and our family.
